Store Lungegårdsvannet
Store Lungegårdsvannet is a bay located in the city and municipality of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The bay separates the city centre, located in the borough of Bergenhus, from the southern boroughs of the city, Årstad, Fana and Ytrebygda. The bay is situated at the end of the Puddefjorden. History The bay is named after the farm of ''Lungegården'', the estate of the Danish nobleman Vincens Lunge. In the Middle Ages, the bay was named ''Alrekstadvågen'', after the royal farm of '' Alrekstad''. Historically, the lake Lille Lungegårdsvannet was located just northwest of the bay, and it emptied into the bay. Vincens Lunge
Vincens Lunge (sporadically referred to as ''Vincents Lunge''; – 3 January 1536) was a Danish- Norwegian noble, member of the Norwegian realm council (''Riksråd'') and the foremost representative of King Christian III of Denmark in Norway. Biography Lunge was born in Denmark in 1486. His parents were Vincens Iversen Dyre til Tirsbæk (died earlier than 1497) and Kirsten Tygesdatter Lunge (died earlier than 1529). He studied at the University of Leuven in Leuven, Brabant. He returned to Denmark in 1518 with a doctoral degree in philosophy and canon law. In 1521 he became a professor of law and rector of the University of Copenhagen. Nygård Bridge
The Nygård Bridge ( no, Nygårdsbroen) is a series of parallel bridges that cross Strømmen, the sound entering Store Lungegårdsvannet, in Bergen, Norway. The Old Nygård Bridge dates from 1854 and carries the two tracks of the Bergen Light Rail as well as pedestrians and cyclists. A beach is a landform alongside a body of water which consists of loose particles. Lille Lungegårdsvannet
Lille Lungegårdsvannet or Smålungeren is a small lake in the centre of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The octagonal lake is a natural lake that was historically connected to the nearby Store Lungegårdsvannet bay via a short strait, but the strait was filled in 1926. Today the lake is located in a park in the city centre. There is a large decorative fountain located in the central part of the lake. History Historically, the lake was much larger than it is now. As the city grew, Lille Lungegårdsvannet slowly but steadily shrank to its present size by adding fill to the sides of the lake to reclaim land. Alrekstad
Alrekstad (Norwegian: ''Kongsgården på Alrekstad'', Old Norse: ''Álreksstaðir'') was one of the largest Kongsgård estates on the west coast of Norway during the early Middle Ages. History Alrekstad was situated at the foot of Ulriken, the highest of the Seven Mountains (''de syv fjell'') that surround Bergen, Norway. Ytrebygda is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The borough is the site of Bergen Flesland Airport. Location Ytrebygda is located southwest of the city center, south of the Grimstadfjorden and the lake Nordåsvannet. Fana
Fana is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The borough makes up the southeastern part of the municipality of Bergen. The borough was once part of the historic municipality of Fana which was incorporated into Bergen in 1972. The old municipality was much larger than the present-day borough of Fana.
