Stongfjorden Chapel
Stongfjorden Chapel ( no, Stongfjorden bedehuskapell) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Stongfjorden. It is one of three annex chapels in the Askvoll parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden chapel was built in 1908 in a long church design using plans drawn up by the architect Martinus Haugen. The chapel seats about 300 people. History The chapel was originally constructed as a prayer house (''bedehus'') in 1908. The cost of the building was . Initially, the parish held two worship services per year at the prayer house. Soon after, it was decided to upgrade the building to a chapel. It was consecrated for regular church use on 6 December 1914 by the local dean Jonas Rein Landmark. is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Askvoll. Other villages in the municipality include Holmedal, Kvammen, and Stongfjorden. Kvammen is a small village located on the south side of the Førdefjorden in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located about north of the village of Dale and about northeast of the municipal center of Askvoll. The town of Førde and access to the European route E39 highway is east of Kvammen. The smaller village of Stongfjorden lies about to the west. Historically, this area of Askvoll was part of the old Vevring municipality. Askvoll is the administrative centre of Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the western coast of the mainland, just north of the mouth of the Dalsfjorden in the Sunnfjord region of the county. Sunnfjord
Sunnfjord ( en, the southern fjord - in contrast to Nordfjord) is a traditional district in Western Norway located in Vestland county. It includes the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, the southernmost parts of Kinn, Sunnfjord, and the southernmost parts of Bremanger. It covers an area of about and has a population (2016) of 43,324–about 8% of the population of Vestland county. The central geographical characteristic of the Sunnfjord region are the fjords: Dalsfjorden and Førdefjorden.
