Stockton F.C.
Stockton Football Club was an English football club based in Stockton-on-Tees. The club were known as 'The Ancients' because of their long-standing presence in the town. Their traditional colours were red and black quartered shirts with white shorts. History The club was established in 1882, and were founder members of the Northern League in 1889. In 1896–87 they reached the final of the FA Amateur Cup, but lost 4–1 in a replay to Old Carthusians. They won the league in 1897–98, and the following season reached the final of the FA Amateur Cup again, this time winning 1–0 against Harwich & Parkeston. They won the Cup again in 1902–03, beating Oxford City 1–0 in a replay. In 1906–07 they won the Northern League again and reached the Amateur Cup final for a fourth time, losing 2–1 to Clapton. Victoria Ground (Stockton-on-Tees)
Victoria Ground (Stockton-on-Tees) was a football and greyhound racing stadium located on Tynedale Street, Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham. Origins The stadium was constructed during the latter part of the 19th Century at a time when the area was being developed from open land into housing. The stadium was located on the east side of the cemetery, the north end of Suffolk Street and on the south side of Tynedale Street. The stadium could hold up to 20,000 spectators. 1947–48 FA Cup
The 1947–48 FA Cup was the 67th staging of the world's oldest football cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as the FA Cup. Manchester United won the competition for only the second time, beating Blackpool 4–2 in the final at Wembley. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. Some matches, however, might be rescheduled for other days if there were clashes with games for other competitions or the weather was inclement. If scores were level after 90 minutes had been played, a replay would take place at the stadium of the second-named team later the same week. If the replayed match was drawn further replays would be held until a winner was determined. James Welford
James William Welford (27 March 1869 – 17 January 1945) was an English cricketer and footballer. He won both the Football League (three times) and FA Cup with Aston Villa, and the Scottish Football League and Scottish Cup with Celtic, all in a seven-year period in the 1890s. In cricket, Welford was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast. Football Welford was born in Barnard Castle, County Durham; his playing position was as a full-back. He had played locally for Stockton and Bishop Auckland before joining Birmingham St George's, from where he joined Aston Villa in 1893. He played there until 1897, making a total of 83 appearances in both League and Cup, scoring one goal. Jack Vickers
John Vickers (7 August 1908 – 24 September 1980) was an English footballer. Career Vickers played for Bishop Auckland, Hull City, Darlington, Doncaster Rovers and Charlton Athletic before joining Port Vale for £200 in May 1933. He played 32 Second Division games in 1933–34 and 26 league games in 1934–35, but lost his first team spot in September 1935, and made just 15 league appearances in 1935–36. He did though feature in the FA Cup giant-killing over First Division giants Sunderland at The Old Recreation Ground on 13 January. Bob Chatt
Robert Samuel Chatt (August 1870 – c. 1955) was an English footballer who was a member of the Aston Villa team which won the Football League championship three times in the 1890s. Chatt was credited with scoring the fastest goal in FA Cup Final history, scored after just 30 seconds in the 1895 FA Cup Final. This record stood for 114 years until Louis Saha of Everton scored after 25 seconds against Chelsea in the 2009 final. Chatt later won the FA Amateur Cup with Stockton and is the only player to have winner's medals for both the FA Cup and the FA Amateur Cup. Tommy Thompson (footballer Born 1938)
Thomas William Thompson (born 9 March 1938) is an English former professional footballer. He spent nine years at Blackpool in the 1960s, making more than 150 Football League appearances for the club. He played as a defender, specifically at full back. He also played briefly for York City. He also represented Great Britain at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Club career Thompson signed for Ron Suart's Blackpool in August of the 1961–62 season, from Stockton, making his debut on 14 October in a 2–1 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield Road. He went on to make a further five league appearances for the club that season. He also made two appearances in their FA Cup campaign, as they reached the semi-finals stage. Peter Desmond
Peter Desmond (23 November 1926 in Cork, Ireland – July 1990) was an Irish footballer. Desmond played for several clubs in the League of Ireland and the English League. As an international, Desmond also played for Ireland. Desmond made all four appearances for Ireland while playing for Middlesbrough. He made his international debut in a 3–0 win against Finland on 8 September 1949 at Dalymount Park in a World Cup qualifier. Desmond was also a member of the Ireland team that defeated England 2–0 at Goodison Park, becoming the first non- UK team to beat England at home. Northern Football Alliance
The Northern Football Alliance is a football league based in the North East, England. It has four divisions headed by the Premier Division, which sits at step 7 (or level 11) of the National League System. The top club in the Premier Division is eligible for promotion to the Northern League Division Two. The top clubs in the First, Second and Third Divisions are promoted to the Premier, First, and Second Divisions respectively. The North Regional League was a football competition in Northern England. The League was formed in 1958 as a reserve league for Football League teams in the North of England. After being formed with 19 members, and reaching a maximum of 22 teams in its second season, numbers quickly began to decline, and by the final season, 1968–69, only four teams competed. Wearside Football League
The Wearside Football League is a non-league football competition based in northern England. It consists of three divisions which sits at steps 7 to 9 (or levels 11 to 13) of the National League System and is a feeder to the Northern League Division Two. Founded in 1892, the Wearside League's level has fluctuated in its history, though it has typically sat below the Northern League. The league's high point was probably during the 1960s and 70s after several teams from the defunct North Eastern League joined it; Wearside League teams won the FA Vase in 1978 and 1981. With the restructuring of the National League System in the early 2000s its place at step 7 became fully established, helped by a merger with the Durham Alliance Combination League in 2017.
