Stiltskin
Stiltskin is a Scottish Rock music, rock band that first achieved widespread popularity in the mid-1990s. Stiltskin are led by frontman Ray Wilson (musician), Ray Wilson, the only constant member throughout the band's history. They are best known for their 1994 UK chart-topper "Inside (Stiltskin song), Inside". Career The band was put together in 1994 by multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Peter Lawlor to front the record he had made of the music he had written for the British Levi's television advertisement, "Creek". The resulting single, "Inside (Stiltskin song), Inside" topped the UK Singles Chart in 1994, but the band failed to produce further matching chart success with the follow-up single "Footsteps" reaching No. 34. The Ambrosian Singers performed Lawlor's choir-like intro vocals to "Inside". Inside (Stiltskin Song)
"Inside" is a song by Scottish rock band Stiltskin, the first single from their first studio album, ''The Mind's Eye (album), The Mind's Eye'' (1994). It was written by Peter Lawlor for the British Levi Strauss & Co., Levi's advert "Creek". "Inside" is a post-grunge song with lyrics about escaping oppression and based around Plato's allegory of the cave. All instruments on the recording were played by Peter Lawlor, and lead vocals were provided by Ray Wilson (musician), Ray Wilson, who would become the new Genesis (band), Genesis singer after the departure of Phil Collins. The introductory chorus is sung by the Ambrosian Singers. "Inside" was released as a single on 25 April 1994 and spent one week at number one on the UK Singles Chart the following month, becoming the fourth song to top the listing following use in a Levi's advert. Ray Wilson (musician)
Raymond Wilson (born 8 September 1968) is a Scottish singer and guitarist, vocalist in the post-grunge band Stiltskin and in Genesis from 1996 to app. 1999. Early career and Stiltskin Before starting a band called Guaranteed Pure in the 1990s, which featured himself along with Paul Holmes (keyboards), Steve Wilson (guitars), John Haimes (bass) and Chris Cavanagh (drums)., he joined Edinburgh Band Strategy in 1987 recording and independently releasing a demo titled Second Move. Guaranteed Pure released an album called ''Swing Your Bag'', the title track of which was included on a compilation album on the label of Fish entitled ''The Funny Farm Project : Outpatients '93''. He then joined Stiltskin; they released one album, '' The Mind's Eye'' (1994), and had a No. 1 UK hit in May 1994 with the single " Inside". Irvin Duguid
Irvin Duguid (born 18 December 1969, in Aberchirder, Aberdeenshire) is a Scottish musician and composer. He studied piano and violin at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow before going on to become keyboard player in the live line-up of Stiltskin, a rock band with the number 1 hit single "Inside" in the UK in 1994. Duguid went on to work with other Scottish acts such as Gun (later to change their name to g.u.n. in the wake of the Dunblane massacre) and then Fish (ex- Marillion vocalist). Duguid has since appeared on several albums by Stiltskin's old vocalist Ray Wilson, who for a short time in the late 1990s was lead singer with Genesis. In 2004 he worked on some demo material with Paolo Nutini and appeared as Paolo's keyboard player at 2 events, a live BBC Radio Scotland session and a gig at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut. Calling All Stations
''...Calling All Stations...'' (stylised in all capitals) is the fifteenth and final studio album by English rock band Genesis. It was released 1 September 1997 by Virgin Records and is their only album featuring Scottish singer Ray Wilson as frontman following the departure of long-term drummer/singer Phil Collins in 1996, making it their only album since ''Trespass'' to not involve Collins. The remaining members—founding keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford—decided to continue the band and write new music for an album, during which they auditioned singers and chose Wilson. ''Calling All Stations'' was released to mostly negative reviews from music critics who chastised its lack of direction but praised Wilson's performance. It sold poorly in comparison to their earlier albums, reaching No. 2 in the UK and performed well in Europe but it peaked at No. 54 in the US. Millionairhead
''Millionairhead'' is the only album by Cut_, a project led by Ray Wilson. It was Wilson's first release on which he took on the majority of the songwriting duties. The album proved to be a one-off project; Wilson would go on to record his own solo albums as well as with the reformed version of Stiltskin. Wilson recorded a reworked version of "Another Day" for his solo album '' Change'' in 2003. He frequently plays some songs from this album at his solo concerts. Live versions of "Another Day", "Sarah", and "Gypsy" can be found on '' Ray Wilson Live'' (2004), live versions of "Another Day", "Sarah", and "Ghost" can be found on '' An Audience and Ray Wilson'' (2006). In October 2007, the album was re-released worldwide with three bonus tracks which were previously released as b-sides. Genesis (band)
Genesis were an English rock music, rock band formed at Charterhouse School, in Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. The band's longest-lasting and most commercially successful line-up consisted of keyboardist Tony Banks (musician), Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. In the 1970s, during which the band also included singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, Genesis were among the pioneers of progressive rock. Ambrosian Singers
The Ambrosian Singers are an English choral group based in London. History They were founded after World War II in England. One of their co-founders was Denis Stevens (1922–2004), a British musicologist and viola player who joined the BBC Music Department in 1949 and developed programs of Renaissance and early Baroque music. Stevens conducted them from 1956 to 1960. The other was John McCarthy (1919–2009), a professional tenor soloist. McCarthy continued to conduct them until the late 1980s. During the 1960s the choir called on the services of between 600 and 700 singers. They organised and created the Ambrosian Singers as a small professional chorus in 1951, initially to sing polyphonic choruses for renaissance and medieval pieces for ''The History of Music'' series. Aubrey Nunn
Aubrey Nunn (born 19 November 1966, Bloomsbury, North London, England) is an English bass guitarist, songwriter, producer, and educator. He is best known as a long-serving former member of the British band Faithless. He has the accolade of having performed on two of the UK Top 40 Best-Selling Studio Albums of All Time. Musical biography Having fronted the pop band Troy Tempest during the mid-1980s, Nunn gave up music to study languages, eventually teaching English at Lycée Boucher de Perthes in Picardy, Northern France. Lawrie MacMillan is a Scottish freelance bass guitarist and bass teacher from Rosyth in Fife, Scotland. Lawrie MacMillan is best known for his work with the chart-topping group Stiltskin, fronted by the vocalist Ray Wilson, who in the late 1990s also fronted the band Genesis, replacing Phil Collins. As Ray Wilson's bassist, he is also involved in the Genesis Classic touring show.
