Lawrie MacMillan
Lawrie MacMillan is a Scottish freelance bass guitarist and bass teacher from Rosyth in Fife, Scotland. Lawrie MacMillan is best known for his work with the chart-topping group Stiltskin, fronted by the vocalist Ray Wilson, who in the late 1990s also fronted the band Genesis, replacing Phil Collins. As Ray Wilson's bassist, he is also involved in the Genesis Classic touring show. A co-founder of the long-running Fife-based party band Cut the Cake, he has also performed, toured and recorded with artists and bands including Stuart Adamson, The Raphaels, Amy Duncan, The Iron Horse (Scottish band) and was featured as Glasgow Royal Concert Hall's house bass player on the BBC Two series, ''Ealtainn'' and the BBC Alba series ''Ceol Country''. A bassist (also known as a bass player or bass guitarist) is a musician who plays a bass instrument such as a double bass (upright bass, contrabass, wood bass), bass guitar (electric bass, acoustic bass), synthbass, keyboard bass or a low brass instrument such as a tuba or trombone. Different musical genres tend to be associated with one or more of these instruments. Since the 1960s, the electric bass has been the standard bass instrument for funk, R&B, soul music, rock and roll, reggae, jazz fusion, heavy metal, country and pop music. The Iron Horse (Scottish Band)
The Iron Horse was a Scottish Celtic music band formed in 1990. During the 1990s the band, along with others, broadened Celtic music from its traditional roots to the wider range of music now encompassed within the Celtic music genre. From slow airs and ballads to driving instrumentals, they wrote and performed a broad spectrum of Scottish folk music. Though the band split up in 2001, due to contractual recording obligations, they reunited briefly in 2004 to record a final album. The band was introduced to a wider audience when they created the music for the BBC TV documentary series, ''The Gamekeeper'' (1995). ''Five Hands High'', one of their more notable albums, opened with "8-Step Waltz", in fact a reel. The band is best known for their album ''Demons and Lovers''. Sadowsky Guitars Limited is an American high-end guitar, bass guitar, and preamps manufacturer based in Long Island City, New York. History The company was started in 1979 and took its name from its founder, Roger Sadowsky, known for "being one of the industry's master craftsmen". As of 2011 the company has 10 employees involved in instrument manufacturing excluding Sadowsky himself. Sadowsky started out modifying vintage Fender basses, which were at that time inexpensive, to improve their sound by adding more noise reduction technology and replacing the passive electronics with an active preamp, which increases the bass's signal-to-noise ratio. BBC Alba is a Scottish Gaelic-language free-to-air public broadcast television channel jointly owned by the BBC and MG Alba. Amy Duncan (singer)
Amy Duncan is a Scottish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She has recorded eight albums: Pilgrimage (2006), Story of a Girl (2007), Potential-Space (2010), Cycles of Life (2013) Undercurrents (2016), Antidote (2017) and The Hidden World (2020) which was released under her own label, Filly Record and Cocoon (2021). Musical career Duncan is a classically trained double bass player, studying at both the RNCM in Manchester and the RSAMD in Glasgow. After completing her studies, Duncan played double bass in experimental band Swelling Meg, who achieved a following in Edinburgh and Glasgow's underground music scene but disbanded in 2000. Rosyth
Rosyth ( gd, Ros Fhìobh, "headland of Fife") is a town on the Firth of Forth, south of the centre of Dunfermline. According to the census of 2011, the town has a population of 13,440. The new town was founded as a Garden city-style suburb and naval dockyards in 1909, and was built as the coastal port of Dunfermline. Rosyth is almost contiguous with neighbouring Inverkeithing, separated only by the M90 motorway. Rosyth railway station is on the Fife Circle Line. The Raphaels
The Raphaels were an alternative country music band, fronted by Scottish guitarist Stuart Adamson, formerly of Skids and Big Country. The duo also featured Nashville songwriter Marcus Hummon. The duo only toured briefly playing various dates around the Nashville area as well as four shows in May 2001, the group was scheduled to play five shows but Adamson did not show up for the band's fifth show scheduled on May 19, 2001. The duo's gig on May 18, 2001, ended up being the last concert Adamson would perform in his lifetime. Their debut and only studio album, ''Supernatural'', was released on May 21, 2001, via Track Records in the United Kingdom and in the United States via the Western Beat Entertainment label.
