Stiftsbasilika Waldsassen
The Waldsassen Basilica, ''Mariä Himmelfahrt und St. Johannes Evangelist'' (Assumption of Mary and St. John the Evangelist) is the parish church in Waldsassen, Bavaria. It was built in its present form from 1685 to 1704 as part of the Waldsassen Abbey. With the secularization in 1803, the Cistercian abbey church became the Catholic parish church. In 1969, Pope Paul VI made it a papal ''basilica minor''. The basilica is known for its display of jewelled skeletons. Architecture The building was designed as an abbey church by Georg Dientzenhofer and Abraham Leuthner in the Baroque style of Bavaria known as "böhmischer Hochbarock mit italienischer Prägung" (Bohemian high Baroque with Italian flavour). Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR; "Bavarian Broadcasting") is a public-service radio and television broadcaster, based in Munich, capital city of the Free State of Bavaria in Germany. BR is a member organization of the ARD consortium of public broadcasters in Germany. History Bayerischer Rundfunk was founded in Munich in 1922 as Deutsche Stunde in Bayern. ''Ave verum corpus'' (Hail, true body), ( K. 618), is a motet in D major composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791. It is a setting of the Latin hymn Ave verum corpus. Mozart wrote it for Anton Stoll, a friend who was the church musician of St. Stephan in Baden bei Wien. The motet was composed for the feast of Corpus Christi; the autograph is dated 17 June 1791. It is scored for SATB choir, string instruments and organ. History Mozart composed the motet in 1791 in the middle of writing his opera ''Die Zauberflöte''. ' (Exult, rejoice), K. 165, is a 1773 motet by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. History This religious solo motet was composed when Mozart was staying in Milan during the production of his opera '' Lucio Silla'' which was being performed there in the Teatro Regio Ducale. It was written for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini, who had sung the part of the '' primo uomo'' Cecilio in ''Lucio Silla'' the previous year. While waiting for the end of the run (from 26 December 1772 to 25 January 1773), Mozart composed the motet for his singer, whose technical excellence he admired. Its first performance took place at the Theatine Church on 17 January 1773, while Rauzzini was still singing in Mozart's opera at night. Mozart made some revisions around 1780. On 30 May 1779, a Trinity Sunday, a revised version was performed by Francesco Ceccarelli at the Holy Trinity Church, Salzburg. Another revised version was intended for Christmas. Günther Kaunzinger (born 10 April 1938) is a German organist and pianist. Life Born in Sulzbach, Kaunzinger studied organ, piano, conducting and composition in Nuremberg and Frankfurt (Main), where he also worked as a coach at the Opera. He has won numerous competitions, including in 1966 a third Prize at the ARD Competition. From 1968 to 1974 he studied organ in Paris with Marie-Claire Alain, Maurice Duruflé and Jean Guillou. He developed a reputation as a performer of both French Romanticism and as an improviser.
