Stiefenhofen is a municipality in the district of Lindau in Bavaria in Germany and the seat of the administrative community of Stiefenhofen. Geography Location Stiefenhofen is located in the region of Allgäu , more precisely in the Westallgäu , near Lake Constance. The lowest point of the area is 750 m, the highest point is 1067 m. Population Politics Mayor The mayor has been Anton Wolf (CSU / free voters) from 1990 until 2020. He was re-elected in 1996, 2002, 2008 and 2014. In March 2020 Christian Hauber was elected mayor. Westallgäu
Westallgäu is the western part of the Allgäu in Germany. It contains large parts of the districts of Lindau (district), Lindau in the south west of the region, Swabia in Bavaria and the district of Ravensburg (district), Ravensburg in the south east of Baden-Württemberg. Westallgäu extends to the north to, amongst others, the towns of Leutkirch im Allgäu, Leutkirch, Wangen im Allgäu, Wangen and Isny im Allgäu, Isny. Westallgäu is bordered by Oberallgäu to the east and the Austrian state (Land) of Vorarlberg to the south. To the southwest, Westallgäu borders Lake Constance through the town of Lindau. Lindau (district)
Lindau is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany; its capital is the city of Lindau. It is bounded by (from the east and clockwise) the district of Oberallgäu, Austria (federal state of Vorarlberg), Lake Constance and the state of Baden-Württemberg (districts of Bodensee and Ravensburg). History The city of Lindau became a Free Imperial City in the 13th century; it was directly subordinate to the emperor. The rural areas around Lindau were the property of monasteries or tiny counties, that rose and fell in the region. When Napoleon gained influence in the area, all these entities were dissolved in the German Mediatisation. Lindau fell to Bavaria. The district of Lindau was established in 1938. Lake Constance (german: Bodensee, ) refers to three Body of water, bodies of water on the Rhine at the northern foot of the Alps: Upper Lake Constance (''Obersee''), Lower Lake Constance (''Untersee''), and a connecting stretch of the Rhine, called the Seerhein, Lake Rhine (''Seerhein''). Crossbill
The crossbill is a genus, ''Loxia'', of birds in the finch family (Fringillidae), with six species. These birds are characterised by the mandibles with crossed tips, which gives the group its English name. Adult males tend to be red or orange in colour, and females green or yellow, but there is much variation. Crossbills are specialist feeders on conifer cones, and the unusual bill shape is an adaptation which enables them to extract seeds from cones. These birds are typically found in higher northern hemisphere latitudes, where their food sources grow. They irrupt out of the breeding range when the cone crop fails. Crossbills breed very early in the year, often in winter months, to take advantage of maximum cone supplies. Grünten
Grünten (also, ''Watcher of the Allgäu'') is a mountain of Bavaria, Germany. On the summit is a Gebirgsjäger monument, dedicated to German mountain troopers killed in World War One. Not far from there, on the lower crest, is a radio tower of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. The cable car connecting the village of Rettenberg and the radio tower was closed to the public in 2014 and is now only used to transport material or members of staff up to the radio tower.
