Segrave Trophy
The Segrave Trophy is awarded to the British national who demonstrates "Outstanding Skill, Courage and Initiative on Land, Water and in the Air". The trophy is named in honour of Sir Henry Segrave, the first person to hold both the land and water speed records simultaneously. The award was established by Segrave's wife, Lady Doris, who was "determined to carry on his legacy". The trophy, designed by sculptor Gilbert Bayes, is awarded by the Royal Automobile Club. It has been awarded in most years since 1930; it is not presented if, in the opinion of the committee, no achievement has been sufficient to deserve the award. Darren Dixon
Darren Dixon is an English former professional motorcycle racer. Originally a sidecar racer, he scored his first win at Lydden Circuit in 1981 in the 'B' final with a new passenger, Terry McGahan. They stayed together through 1982 and scored 38 wins together including a lap record at Brands Hatch which stood until 1991. After an astounding rise through club racing finances meant his sidecar promise would be put on hold and he took to solo racing and quickly climbed the ranks to become a top national level solo racer. He won the British F1 Championship in 1988 on a Suzuki RG500 and made two 500cc Grand Prix appearances. His greatest achievement was winning the Sidecar World Championship in 1995 and 1996. Rolf Biland (born 1 April 1951) is a Swiss former sidecar racer. He is known not only for his seven FIM Sidecar World Championships and 80 Grand Prix wins, but for his experimentation and innovation with new types of machine, like the Seymaz, the BEO and the LCR. His success was not limited to Grand Prix tracks, as he finished second at the Isle of Man Sidecar TT at his first attempt. Biland was instrumental in the development of the Swissauto V4 engine and won his last world title using it. Biland retired from sidecar competition and became team manager for the Muz 500 team in 1999, renaming it Team Biland GP1. Alain Michel (born 23 February 1953) in Montelimar is a French sidecar racer and motorcycle preparer. He is the only French World Sidecar Champion. The career of Alain Michel began on 2 wheels 1972. He also won this year's Cup Four Seasons category on a Honda 450 and finished in second place in the championship of France 500 national. Considering this experience as inconclusive, he embarked on three wheels 1975 and in 1976 began to a career Grand Prix category sidecar in which he obtained some good results.
