Stephen Frank Carter (October 29, 1943 – January 26, 2021) was an American politician from Louisiana who served in the Louisiana House of Representatives for the 68th district as a Republican from 2008 to 2020. Career He was first elected in 2007 after defeating Kyle Ardoin in a run-off election. In 2019, due to term limits, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Louisiana State Senate. Carter was the Republican nominee in the 2020 Baton Rouge mayoral election, placing second after Sharon Weston Broome. Robert Kyle Ardoin (born July 31, 1967) is an American politician from the state of Louisiana. A Republican, he has served as Secretary of State of Louisiana since May 9, 2018. Ardoin took the post when former Secretary of State Tom Schedler resigned. The 2020 Baton Rouge mayoral election was held on November 3, 2020 and December 5, 2020 to elect the mayor-president of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As no candidate won a majority in the first round, a runoff was held between the top two candidates, incumbent Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome of the Democratic Party and fmr. Sharon Weston Broome
Sharon Weston Broome (born October 1, 1956) is the mayor-president of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She served in the Louisiana State Senate representing the 15th district from 2005 to 2016. She was elected mayor-president in a runoff election held on December 10, 2016. Broome is the first African-American woman to serve as mayor-president. From 2008 to 2016, Broome was the President Pro Tempore of the state Senate. In 2011, she was elected to her second full Senate term without opposition.
