Steve Burke (footballer)
Steven James Burke (born 29 September 1960) is an English former footballer who played 156 games in the Football League. He played as a winger. Playing career Burke was born in Nottingham, and came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest. His only first-team appearance was on 20 October 1976, while still a schoolboy aged 16 years 22 days, as a substitute in the Anglo-Scottish Cup against Ayr United. He moved on to Second Division club Queens Park Rangers in September 1979 for a fee of £125,000, and made his debut in the Football League on 7 September in a 3–0 win at home to Fulham. He played quite frequently at the beginning of his QPR career, and came on as substitute in the 1982 FA Cup Final replay, which QPR lost to Tottenham Hotspur. Anglo-Scottish Cup
The Anglo-Scottish Cup was a tournament arranged for teams in the English and Scottish football leagues during the summer for several years during the 1970s. It was created in 1975 as a new incarnation of the Texaco Cup, with a similar format to its predecessor, but involving clubs from England and Scotland only. The competition made every attempt to maintain the status of a top-level tournament. Newcastle United were expelled from the 1976–77 competition for playing a weakened team in the first leg of their quarter-final against Ayr United. Over the years, however, English entrants were increasingly drawn from the lower divisions, and in 1981 the Scottish clubs withdrew as the public showed little interest in the competition. Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. 1982 FA Cup Final
The 1982 FA Cup Final was the 101st final of the FA Cup and took place on 22 May 1982 at Wembley Stadium. It was contested between Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers. Tottenham were the cup holders and were hot favourites, while QPR had narrowly missed out on promotion from the Second Division. It would be the last final involving a team from outside the top flight for ten years. Tottenham's victory meant that they had then won the FA Cup seven times – matching the record set by Aston Villa 25 years earlier. It also preserved their unbeaten record in FA Cup finals.
