Steve Balbi
Stephen Vert Balbi (born 3 October 1964) is an Australian musician and record producer. He was the founding bass guitarist in pub rockers, Noiseworks in 1986 and formed a psychedelic pop group and production duo, Electric Hippies in 1993 with fellow Noiseworks member, Justin Stanley. He joined Mi-Sex in 2011. Balbi issued his debut solo album, ''Black Rainbow'', in October 2013. Biography 1960-1985: Early years Steve Balbi was born in the mid-1960s and grew up in a Maltese family in Newtown, Sydney. He first performed publicly, with his uncle's band, at age 6, on a tambourine. He performed in Rufus Red. During the mid-to-late-1970s he was a bass guitarist for a blues, funk rock band, Rupert B. Other members were Mick Buckley on drums, Rohan Cannon on guitar and vocals, Guillermo Mayer on saxophone and Mick Thornton on slide trombone and trumpet. Not from Here is the fifth studio album by New Zealand band Mi-Sex. It is the first studio album by the band since '' Where Do They Go?'' in 1983. The album features lead vocals by Steve Balbi. Balbi joined Travis New on guitar, alongside original Mi-Sex members Don Martin, Murray Burns, Paul Dunningham and Colin Bayley. The album was released in September 2016 and peaked at number 93 on the Australian ARIA Charts. Background and release Mi-Sex formed in 1977 and released four studio albums between 1979-1983. The band split in 1986. The band’s original singer Steve Gilpin died from a car crash in 1992. 2011 Christchurch Earthquake
A major earthquake occurred in Christchurch on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 12:51 p.m. local time (23:51 UTC, 21 February). The () earthquake struck the entire of the Canterbury region in the South Island, centred south-east of the central business district. It caused widespread damage across Christchurch, killing 185 people, in New Zealand's fifth-deadliest disaster. X is an Australian punk rock band, formed in Sydney, New South Wales in 1977 founded by Ian Rilen, Steve Lucas, Ian Krahe and Steve Cafiero. The group was formed simultaneously to, and with no knowledge of, the Los Angeles group of the same name. History Early years Ian Rilen had been a founder member of the hard rock group Rose Tattoo; on leaving that band he formed X with Steve Lucas as vocalist, Ian Krahe on guitar and Steve Cafiero on drums in 1977. Krahe was renowned for playing so frenetically without a pick that his hands would bleed. Domenica "Nikka" Costa (born 4 June 1972) is an American singer whose music combines elements of pop, soul, and blues. She also had a career as a child singer starting in the early 1980s. Ian McFarlane (born 1959) is an Australian music journalist, music historian and author, whose best known publication is the '' Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' (1999), which was updated for a second edition in 2017. As a journalist he started in 1984 with '' Juke'', a rock music newspaper. During the early 1990s he worked for Roadrunner Records while he published a music guide, ''The Australian New Music Record Guide Volume 1: 1976–1980'' (1992).
