Gwen Sterry
Gwendolyne Reingale Sterry Simmers (1905–?) was an English tennis player who was active in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1922 she won the Junior Singles British Championship. She competed eight times in the singles event at Wimbledon, reaching the fourth round in 1931 which she lost to fourth-seeded Hilde Krahwinkel. Sterry lost in three sets to Helen Wills during the first round of the 1927 Wimbledon Championships and is one of only three players who were able to win a set against Wills during her eight-year reign as Wimbledon champion. She won the doubles title at the 1926 British Hard Court Championships in Torquay partnering Betty Nuthall. With Kitty McKane Godfree she was runner-up in the doubles event in 1932 when the tournament was held in Bournemouth. That same year she won the singles title at the Surrey Championships. Jamie Michael Sterry (born 21 November 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays for Doncaster Rovers. Career Early career Sterry began his career with Newcastle United, where he progressed through the youth ranks at St James' Park and signed a professional contract in July 2015. He made his Premier League debut on 15 May 2016, coming on as an 84th-minute substitute in place of Moussa Sissoko during a 5–1 home win over Tottenham Hotspur. Norman Sterry
Norman Sedgwick Sterry (July 8, 1878 – February 3, 1971) was an American lawyer and football player. He represented movie stars and prominent persons as a lawyer in Los Angeles and successfully represented Major League Baseball in the case that resulted in the United States Supreme Court's exemption of baseball from the antitrust laws. As a law student at the University of Michigan, Sterry played at the halfback and end positions on the Michigan Wolverines football teams from 1900 to 1902. Early years Sterry was born in Emporia, Kansas in 1878, the son of Clinton Norman Sterry (1843–1903) and Lousie Augusta Slocum. He was educated in the public schools in Kansas. In 1892, his father, who was an attorney, became the general attorney for the Santa Fe Railroad in the region west of Albuquerque. Peter Sterry
Peter Sterry (1613 – 19 November 1672) was an English independent theologian, associated with the Cambridge Platonists prominent during the English Civil War era. He was chaplain to Parliamentarian general Robert Greville, 2nd Baron Brooke and then Oliver Cromwell, a member of the Westminster Assembly, and a leading radical Puritan preacher attached to the English Council of State. He was made fun of in ''Hudibras''. Life He was born in Surrey. He went to St. Olave's Grammar School, Southwark. He was a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, from 1636, where he had studied since 1629; but gave up the fellowship quite soon.
