Stereophonics Songs
Stereophonics are a Welsh rock band formed in 1992 in the village of Cwmaman in the Cynon Valley, Wales. The band consists of Kelly Jones (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Richard Jones (bass guitar, harmonica, backing vocals), Adam Zindani (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Jamie Morrison (drums, percussion) and touring member Tony Kirkham (keyboards). The group previously included Stuart Cable (1992–2003) and then Javier Weyler (2004–2012) on drums. Stereophonics have released twelve studio albums, including eight UK number one albums. A successful compilation album, ''Decade in the Sun'', was released in November 2008 and charted at number two on the UK Album Chart. Described as "classic UK rock delivered with whiskey vocals", the band have been summarised as possessing a sound akin to the genres of alternative rock and "British traditional rock". The O2 Arena
The O2 Arena, commonly known as the O2 (stylised as The O2 arena), is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the centre of the O2 entertainment complex on the Greenwich Peninsula in southeast London. It opened in its present form in 2007. It has the second-highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom, behind the Manchester Arena, and in 2008 was the world's busiest music arena. As of 2022, it is the ninth-largest building in the world by volume. Javier Weyler
Javier Andrés Weyler (born 3 July 1975) is an Argentine-born Venezuelan-English drummer, best known as a member of Stereophonics from 2004 to 2012. He was the drummer in the Venezuelan band Claroscuro for over nine years until he left the country in 2001 to study audio engineering in London. In 2008 he released his first solo album, ''Lagrima'', under the pseudonym of Capitan Melao. Career Weyler was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before moving with his family to Caracas, Venezuela, where he learned music and developed his early career as a drummer. 1992–2004: Claroscuro and audio engineering Weyler was given his first drum kit at the age of thirteen by his father's band drummer and was taught how to play them by Venezuelan drummer Jose Mato. "Dakota" (released in the United States as "Dakota (You Made Me Feel Like the One)") is a song by Welsh alternative rock band Stereophonics. It was the first single taken from their fifth studio album, '' Language. Sex. Violence. Other?'', and was released on 28 February 2005. "Dakota" was the first and to date only Stereophonics single to reach number one and the last to reach the top ten on the UK Singles Chart and to chart on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. It also became the band's highest-charting single in both Australia and New Zealand. The song has been compared to the works of U2. Writing Kelly Jones started writing the music for "Dakota" in January 2004. "Pick a Part That's New" is a song by Welsh rock band Stereophonics. It was released on 3 May 1999 as the third single from their second studio album, ''Performance and Cocktails'' (1999). The single reached number four on the UK Singles Chart and number 17 in Ireland. In March 2000, the song charted in Canada, peaking at number 22 on the ''RPM'' Top 30 Rock Report. The song was certified silver in the United Kingdom in 2017 for sales and streams exceeding 200,000 units. An acoustic version is found on CD2 of the "Pick a Part That's New" single. "Just Looking" is a song by Welsh rock band Stereophonics, issued as the second single from their second album, ''Performance and Cocktails'' (1999). It was released on 22 February 1999, reaching number four on the UK Singles Chart and number 18 in Ireland. In 2022, it was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales and streams of over 400,000. A live acoustic version is featured on CD two of the "Step On My Old Size Nines" single. The song's music video features the band in a car with Stuart Cable driving. Performance And Cocktails
''Performance and Cocktails'' is the second studio album by Welsh rock band Stereophonics. It was released by V2 on 8 March 1999. The name of the album comes from lyrics in the album's first song, "Roll Up and Shine", just like the previous album's name, ''Word Gets Around'' came from lyrics in that album's final song. The album was a surprise commercial success for Stereophonics but it received mixed reviews. Recording The songs were variously recorded at Real World Studios in Bath, Parkgate in Sussex and Rockfield in Monmouth. Album cover The cover photograph was taken by Scarlet Page in autumn 1998 at a football pitch under the Westway in London, and was inspired by an earlier Annie Leibovitz photograph of a couple kissing outside a prison. "More Life in a Tramps Vest" is the second single released by Welsh rock band Stereophonics. The song is taken from the band's debut album, ''Word Gets Around'' (1997), and was released on 19 May 1997. It reached number 33 on the UK Singles Chart. The song is about life from the view of someone working on a market stall. The single's B-side, "Raymond's Shop", is featured on Stereophonics' greatest hits compilation album ''Decade in the Sun''. Music video The video shows various activities (such as shopping, riding a bus, playing football), but everyone has televisions for heads, which show many different things. The only people who don't have televisions for head are the band, who are shown performing in nearby Aberdare Market, where lead singer Kelly worked selling fruit and vegetables before the band were signed. Title and lyrics During an interview with Sky Arts HD after his performance at the Hay Festival in June 2010, Kelly Jones explained the meaning of a few of his songs and said that "Local Boy in the Photograph" was based on the true story of local boy Paul David Boggis, who was killed by a train travelling between Cwmbach and Aberdare. Word Gets Around
''Word Gets Around'' is the debut studio album by Welsh rock band Stereophonics. It was released on 25 August 1997 through V2 Records and reached number six in the UK Albums Chart, making it one of three Stereophonics albums not to reach number one; the other two being 2009's '' Keep Calm and Carry On'', which reached number eleven, and 2013's ''Graffiti on the Train'', which went to number three. Much of the album is written about everyday life in Cwmaman, the band's hometown. The deluxe and super-deluxe editions were released on 18 October 2010. The name of the album comes from lyrics in the album's last song, "Billy Davey's Daughter".
