Stefano Cerioni
Stefano Cerioni (born 24 January 1964) is an Italian foil fencer, Olympic team champion in 1984, Olympic champion in 1988 and World team champion in 1985 and 1994. He became a fencing master, then a director of foil, first for Italy, then for Russia, then again for Italy. Athletic career Cerioni was born in 1964 in Madrid, where his father was working. His parents moved back to Jesi, in Italy, when he was a child. He learned fencing under Ezio Triccoli, a family friend, who also coached Olympic champions Valentina Vezzali and Giovanna Trillini in their formative years. He practiced both sabre and foil, but foil quickly gained his preference. Cerioni won the silver medal at the 1983 Junior World Championships in Budapest, then the gold medal in 1984 in Leningrad. He made his Olympic début at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He made his way to the semi-finals, where he met teammate Mauro Numa. Mauro Numa
Mauro Numa (born 8 November 1961 in Mestre) is an Italian fencer and one of the strongest during the 1980s.His career started very early and in 1979, at 18, he was included in the Foil's Italian Team. In 1980 Numa could not compete at the Moscow Olympic Games due to the boycott. Biography In 1984 at 22 he competed at the Los Angeles Olympic Games winning gold in the individual and team foil events. In the final for the Individual Title Numa won over Matthias Behr. Less than 1 minute before the end Behr was 4 points up but Numa caught his opponent and eventually won in the tie break with the final score of 12-11. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. Giovanna Trillini
Giovanna Trillini (born 17 May 1970 in Iesi) is an Italian Foil (fencing), foil fencing, fencer. She is a 4-time Olympic champion (3 times in the team event, 1 time individual) and she won an additional silver and two bronze medals in individual Olympic competitions. Biography She has two brothers, Ezio and Roberto, who were both fencers. In 2001, she got her degree in Sport Science at the University of Urbino. Trillini won the bronze medal at the foil 2006 World Fencing Championships after she lost 15–8 to Margherita Granbassi in the semi final. Valentina Vezzali
Maria Valentina Vezzali (; born 14 February 1974) is an Italian politician and retired fencer. As a fencer, Vezzali won six Olympic gold medals and was a 16-time World Champion in foil. She is one of only five athletes in the history of the Summer Olympic Games to have won five medals in the same individual event. In 2013, Vezzali became a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies as part of the Civic Choice party. In 2021, she became Italy's cabinet undersecretary in charge of sports.
