Stefan Oster
Stefan Oster S.D.B. (born 3 June 1965) is a German bishop of the Catholic Church who has served as the Bishop of Passau since 2014. Though among the youngest and least senior German bishops, he has taken a large role in the German Church's debates and was chosen to give the closing homily at the German Bishops Conference's 2019 meeting. Early life Oster was born on 3 June 1965 in Amberg, a town in Bavaria, Germany. He graduated from Neutraubling high school and trained as a newspaper and radio editor from 1984 to 1986. He spent some years working in this profession. In 1988 he started his studies in philosophy, history and religious studies in Regensburg, Kiel, at Keele University and the University of Oxford. From 1990 to 1991 he was a fellow in the Erasmus Programme of the European Union. He graduated from Oxford in 1993 with a Master of Studies and a Master of Arts from Regensburg in 1994. The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), formally known as the Society of Saint Francis de Sales (), is a religious congregation of men in the Catholic Church, founded in the late 19th century by Italian priest Saint John Bosco to help poor children during the Industrial Revolution. The congregation was named after Saint Francis de Sales, a 17th-century bishop of Geneva. Jünkerath is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Rudolf Voderholzer (October 9, 1959) is a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He is bishop of Regensburg since 2012. Life Born in Munich, Voderholzer studied at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich where he received an MA in 1985 and a diploma in theology in 1986. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1987, by Friedrich Cardinal Wetter serving in Munich and Freising. He worked as a chaplain in Traunreut, Haar and Zorneding. In 1992 he became an assistant at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich to Gerhard Ludwig Müller, professor in Dogmatic theology, acquiring a doctorate in theology in 1997. Transubstantiation
Transubstantiation (Latin: ''transubstantiatio''; Greek: μετουσίωσις ''metousiosis'') is, according to the teaching of the Catholic Church, "the change of the whole substance of bread into the substance of the Body of Christ and of the whole substance of wine into the substance of the Blood of Christ". This change is brought about in the eucharistic prayer through the efficacy of the word of Christ and by the action of the Holy Spirit. However, "the outward characteristics of bread and wine, that is the 'eucharistic species', remain unaltered".
