Stefan Henze
Stefan Henze (3 May 1981 – 15 August 2016) was a German slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1996 to 2011. Career Henze won a silver medal in the C2 event at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He also won six medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold (C2: 2003), four silvers (C2: 2006, C2 team: 2003, 2006, 2009), and a bronze (C2: 2005). He won a gold and two silvers in the C2 team event at the European Championships. His partner in the C2 boat throughout his career was Marcus Becker. His father Jürgen Henze is world champion in the C2 team event from 1975 and his older brother Frank Henze is also a canoe slalom racer and multiple world championship medalist. Canoe Slalom
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. 2011 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2011 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in La Seu d'Urgell, Catalonia, Spain between June 9 and June 12, 2011 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). Čunovo Water Sports Centre
The Čunovo Water Sports Centre is an artificial whitewater slalom course in Slovakia, on an island in the Danube river, 14 km southeast of Bratislava, near the village of Čunovo. It is powered by flow diversion from the Čunovo dam. Since 1997, it has hosted a full schedule of local, regional, and international competitions, including multiple World Cup races, 2 European Championships and the 2011 World Championships. Augsburg Eiskanal
The ''Augsburg Eiskanal'' is an artificial whitewater river in Augsburg, Germany, constructed as the canoe slalom venue for the 1972 Summer Olympics in nearby Munich. The first artificial whitewater course of its kind, it introduced the sport of canoe slalom (using decked canoes and kayaks) to the Olympic Games. However, because of the expense of building artificial rivers and supplying them with water, canoe slalom was missing from the next four Summer Olympics. It returned with the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, and has been featured in every Summer Olympics since then. Frank Henze
Frank Henze (born 1 April 1977 in Leipzig) is a German slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1995 to 2013. He won three medals in the C2 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two silvers (2002, 2009) and a bronze (2010). He won six more medals at the European Championships in the same event (3 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes). At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed in the C2 event. He did not advance to the semifinals after finishing 11th in the qualifying round. His partner in the boat between 1998 and 2002 was Kai Walter. From 2005 to 2013 he competed internationally with David Schröder. Jürgen Henze
Jürgen Henze (born 23 June 1950 in Schkopau) is a former East German slalom canoeist who competed in the 1970s. He won a gold medal in the C2 team event at the 1975 in Skopje. Henze also finished 18th in the C2 event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. His partner in the boat was Herbert Fischer. His two sons Frank and Stefan were also slalom canoeists. Both represented reunified Germany in the Olympics unlike their father who only competed for the now dissolved East Germany.
