Static World View
''Static World View'' is the first album by Spring Heeled Jack U.S.A., Spring Heeled Jack, released by Moon Ska Records on March 26, 1996. By the time the band began recording the album, original trumpet player Pat Gingras had left, replaced by Tyler Jones. Saxophone player James Riley left midway through. As a result, half was recorded with replacement Peter "JR" Wasilewski, Pete Wasilewski, who previously played with trombone player Chris Rhodes in the Connecticut band JC Superska. ''Static World View'' begins and ends with quotes from the movie ''Tapeheads''. To support the album, the band filmed their first music video for "Pay Some Dues" and started touring outside of their usual local territory. Third-wave Of Ska
Ska (; ) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. It combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. Ska is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off beat. It was developed in Jamaica in the 1960s when Stranger Cole, Prince Buster, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, and Duke Reid formed sound systems to play American rhythm and blues and then began recording their own songs. In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with British mods and with many skinheads. Moon Ska Records
Moon Ska Records was one of the most influential ska record labels of the 1980s and 1990s. The label operated from 1983 until 2000, and during those seventeen years, only released ska and ska-influenced music. Originally named ''Moon Records'', as a tribute to Sun Records, the label changed its name to ''Moon Ska Records'' because another label owned the copyright to the ''Moon Records'' name. The label was started by Robert "Bucket" Hingley, founding member of The Toasters as a means to distribute albums by The Toasters. The label became an American source for many British ska import albums. Connecticut Ska
Spring Heeled Jack (known alternatively for a time as Spring Heeled Jack U.S.A.) is a third wave ska band based out of New Haven, Connecticut. The band was formed by guitarist/vocalist Ron Ragona and drummer Dave Karcich in 1991. After a short breakup, Ragona and Karcich reformed the band with a new lineup. This lineup went on to record two albums before announcing a hiatus in 2000. While the band members moved on to perform in several new bands, their intention was to play the occasional reunion show. This plan would never come to fruition as a cerebral aneurysm would be cause for Karcich's death in 2002. In 2015, several band members returned to reform the band full-time. A third studio album, ''Sound Salvation'', followed in 2017. Peter "JR" Wasilewski
Less Than Jake is an American ska punk band from Gainesville, Florida, formed in 1992. The band consists of Chris DeMakes (guitars, vocals), Roger Lima (bass, vocals), Matt Yonker (drums), Buddy Schaub (trombone), and Peter "JR" Wasilewski (saxophone). The group released its debut album, '' Pezcore'', in 1995, following a series of independent seven-inch single releases. The band's subsequent two studio albums, ''Losing Streak'' (1996) and '' Hello Rockview'' (1998), were released on major label, Capitol Records, leading to increased exposure. ''Borders and Boundaries'' was released in 2000 on Fat Wreck Chords. Chris Rhodes is a trombone player from New Haven, Connecticut best known for playing trombone in several notable ska bands including Spring Heeled Jack, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bim Skala Bim and the Toasters as well as Connecticut funk band, Boogie Chillin'. ''Tapeheads'' is a 1988 comedy film directed by Bill Fishman and starring John Cusack, Tim Robbins, Sam Moore and Junior Walker. The film was produced by Michael Nesmith, who briefly appears as a bottled water delivery man. Plot After losing their jobs as security guards, best friends Ivan (John Cusack) and Josh (Tim Robbins) start a music video production company called "Video Aces".
