State Route 145 (SR 145) is a state highway in the central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 31 (US 31) and SR 22 in Clanton. The northern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with Shelby County Route 61 (CR 61) in Wilsonville. Route description SR 145 is aligned on a two-lane route for its duration. It serves as a connector route between Clanton and Lay Lake, which lies along the Chilton– Shelby county line. After leaving Clanton, the highway travels to the north through rural areas of farm and timberland, and travels through no major cities or towns. Clanton is a city in Chilton County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Birmingham–Hoover–Cullman Combined Statistical Area. At the 2020 census, the population was . The city is the county seat of Chilton County. Clanton is near the site of the geographic center of the U.S state of Alabama. History The area that would become Clanton was known as "Goose Pond" and nearby "Ranch" when Baker County (later renamed Chilton County) was founded on December 30, 1868. Soon thereafter (May 1871) the town of Clanton took its name from the South and North Alabama Railroad station of that name. A couple of actions solidified the name of the town. Waxahatchee Creek
Waxahatchee Creek is a tributary of the lower Coosa River near Shelby, Alabama. It forms the southeastern border between Shelby County and Chilton County, where it is crossed by Alabama State Route 145. The lower reaches of Waxahatchee Creek are broad and popular with water skiers and recreational boaters. Several resort camps and marinas are located on the creek, and anglers have found the submerged forests of the middle to upper creek are favorite spots for largemouth bass. The channel is known for crappie. In the upper creek, the water grows very shallow, but there are "holes" of deep water where bluegill and bream are plentiful. Waxahatchee Creek is part of the habitat of the threatened round rocksnail, which is included on the United States Fish and Wildlife Service list of endangered species. Wilsonville is a town in southeastern Shelby County, Alabama, United States, located northeast of Columbiana. At the 2020 census, the population was 1,857. Wilsonville is named after the earliest settler in the area, Elisha Wilson.
