The National Mediator of Norway ( no, Riksmekleren, until 2012 ''Riksmeklingsmannen'') is a mediator's office of Norway. It is invoked in labour disputes, in other words when creation or revision of tariff agreements is disagreed upon. It was established in 1915, and the first National Mediator took office in 1916. Preben Munthe
Preben Hempel Munthe (15 October 1922 – 3 January 2013) was a Norwegian economist. He was born in Aker, the son of librarian Wilhelm Munthe (1883–1965) and his wife Jenny Hempel (1882–1975). Gerhard Munthe was his elder brother. The younger Munthe finished his secondary education in 1941, and graduated from the University of Oslo with the cand.oecon. degree five years later. He was employed as a research fellow at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in the following year, and was promoted to docent in 1956. He took his doctorate in 1961, and was a professor at the University of Oslo from 1961 to 1992. Parallel to this he served as the State Conciliator of Norway from 1965 to 1974. Kari Gjesteby
Kari Gjesteby (born 16 May 1947) is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She has never been a member of the Norwegian Parliament, but has been State Secretary for three tenures, as well as Minister of Trade and Shipping from February to October 1981 and Minister of Justice and the Police from 1990 to 1992. After her political career she has been a director in the Bank of Norway, director of the National Library of Norway and the Norwegian Library of Talking Books and Braille and, from 2009 to 2013, the first female State Conciliator of Norway. Geir Engebretsen
Geir Engebretsen (born 22 March 1952) is a Norwegian jurist and civil servant. He was born in Oslo, and graduated with the cand.jur. degree in 1978. He was a subdirector and head of department in the Ministry of Justice and the Police from 1985 to 1991, except for the years 1987 to 1989 when he worked in the county governor office. He was also acting County Governors of Oslo and Akershus, as Gunnar Alf Larsen left in 1988 and Kåre Willoch could not assume the position until 1989. Svein Longva (20 December 1943 – 16 April 2009) was a Norwegian economist and civil servant. He was born in Oslo, but his family moved to Volda in 1950. After completing his secondary education there in 1962, he enrolled in political economy studies at the University of Oslo. Here, he was briefly involved in the Norwegian Labour Party student group, which was dominated by later politicians like Gudmund Hernes and Einar Førde. Reidar Ludvig Webster (11 January 1935 – 15 January 2022) was a Norwegian civil servant. Bjørn Haug (16 December 1928 – 8 April 2020) was a Norwegian jurist who held a number of appointed and elected positions. Biography He was born in Oslo. He worked in the Office of the Attorney General of Norway from 1959 to 1962 and in the private company Christiania Spigerverk from 1962 to 1972. He was then the Attorney General of Norway from 1972 to 1993, and also served as the State Conciliator of Norway, from January 1982 to January 1988.
