Starship Patrol
''Starship Patrol'' (also called ''Starship Defense'' in North America and ''Star Ship Defender'' in Japan) is a strategy video game of the tower defence type developed by the Japanese company Q Games and released by Nintendo for the DSiWare/ Nintendo DSi platform. Gameplay Similar to other games of the tower-defence genre, the player must defend a fleet of starships against alien attackers by strategically placing turrets and other defensive mechanisms. The player may make use of certain power-ups and bonuses, but is also rewarded for not using them. The game has 30 stages (or levels) of increasing difficulties, each featuring different structures to be defended. As with other games developed by Q Games for the DSi platform, the game has minimal styling, with the graphics being styled to appear like mathematical graph-paper. Q-Games, Limited is a video game developer based in Nakagyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan which works closely with both Nintendo and Sony. Foundation Q-Games was founded by Dylan Cuthbert, who previously worked at Argonaut Software and helped create ''Starglider'' and '' Starglider 2'' for Argonaut Software, then gave programming assistance to '' X'' and the first ''Star Fox'' for Nintendo. He also developed ''Star Fox 2'' to completion before heading off to work at Sony America to make '' Blasto'' on the PlayStation. ''Edge'' is a multi-format video game magazine published by Future plc. It is a UK-based magazine and publishes 13 issues annually. The magazine was launched by Steve Jarratt. It has also released foreign editions in Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. History The magazine was launched in October 1993 by Steve Jarratt, a long-time video games journalist who has launched several other magazines for Future. The artwork for the cover of the magazine's 100th issue was specially provided by Shigeru Miyamoto. The 200th issue was released in March 2009 with 200 different covers, each commemorating a single game; 199 variants were in general circulation, and one was exclusive to subscribers. A single-player video game is a video game where input from only one player is expected throughout the course of the gaming session. ''1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die'' is a video game reference book first published in October 2010. It consists of a list of video games released between 1970 and 2013, arranged chronologically by release date. Each entry in the list is accompanied by a short essay written by a video game critic, with some entries accompanied by screen shots. It was edited by Tony Mott, long-time editor of ''Edge'' magazine. The book's preface was written by video game designer Peter Molyneux. It is written in a similar manner to ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die'', also published by Universe Publishing. Reception Reception for the book has been generally positive, with critics praising the wealth of knowledge, but criticizing some particular entries.
