Stargard was an American R&B, funk and Soul music, soul girl group. Overview At the group's inception Stargard's members were Rochelle Runnells, Debra Anderson and Janice Williams. The vocal trio issued the "Theme Song from 'Which Way Is Up'" on the soundtrack of the 1977 feature film ''Which Way Is Up?''. The Norman Whitfield penned track also came upon Stargard's Stargard (album), self-titled debut album released in 1978 on MCA Records. The album rose to numbers 12 & 26 upon the Top R&B Albums and Billboard 200 charts respectively. As a single (music), single "Which Way Is Up" rose to numbers 1, 12 & 21 upon the Billboard Magazine, Billboard Hot R&B Songs, Dance Club Songs and Hot 100 charts respectively. It is a national look over of club disc jockeys to determine the most popular songs being played in nightclubs across the country. It was launched as the Disco Action Top 30 chart on August 28, 1976, and became the first chart by ''Billboard'' to document the popularity of dance music. Marvin Jerome Yancy (May 31, 1950 – March 22, 1985) was an American gospel musician, pastor and Grammy-winning record producer, and former pastor of Fountain of Life Baptist Church. He started his music career, in 1971, with The Independents, who were an American R&B vocal group. His lone solo album, ''Heavy Load'', was released on January 1, 1985, by Nashboro Records, and it placed at No. 4 on the ''Billboard'' magazine Gospel Albums chart. Early life Yancy was born on May 31, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, as Marvin Jerome Yancy, to Reverend Robert Yancy Sr., who was the pastor of Fountain of Life Baptist Church, at the time of his death in 1977, and his mother, Anne. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data.
