Stanley Royle
Stanley Royle RBA, (1888–1961) was an English post-impressionist landscape painter and illustrator who lived for most of his life in and around Sheffield (England), and in Canada, and was inspired by views of landscape, sea and snow. Early life and career Royle was born at Stalybridge, Cheshire and in 1904, began studying at the Sheffield Technical School of Art. In 1908, he gained a scholarship, which enabled him to continue his studies at the art school. His earliest inspiration was his tutor, Oliver. Oliver was Senior Painting Master at the art school, of whom Royle had a high opinion, and who exhibited at the Royal Academy.A Dictionary of Canadian Artists, volumes 1-8 by Colin S. The Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) is a Canadian arts-related organization that was founded in 1880. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) is a public provincial art museum based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The art museum's primary building complex is located in downtown Halifax and takes up approximately of space. Alex Colville
David Alexander Colville, LL. D. (24 August 1920 – 16 July 2013) was a painter and printmaker who continues to achieve both popular and critical success. Early life and war artist Born in 1920 in Toronto, Ontario, Colville moved with his family at age seven to St. Catharines, and then to Amherst, Nova Scotia, in 1929. He attended Mount Allison University from 1938 to 1942, where he studied under Canadian Post-Impressionism, Post-Impressionists like Stanley Royle and Sarah Hart, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Colville married Rhoda Wright, who he had been friends with since his freshman year at "Mount A," in 1942 and enlisted in the Canadian Army shortly afterwards. Elizabeth Styring Nutt (1870 – 1946), was an artist and educator, known for her leadership of the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax. Biography Elizabeth Styring Nutt was born on the Isle of Man in 1870. Following the death of her father she moved to Sheffield. Nutt attended the Sheffield School of Art, Newlyn School of Art, and the Sorbonne. In 1914 she received her Masters of Arts at the University of Sheffield. Nutt began her teaching career in Sheffield at the Firs Hill Branch Art School, then the Sheffield School of Art and the Sheffield Training College for Teachers. In 1919 Nutt accepted Arthur Lismer's offer to succeed him as the Principal of the Victoria School of Art and Design. William John Leech
William John Leech (10 April 1881 – 16 July 1968) was an Irish painter. Biography Leech was born in Dublin the son of Anne Louisa née Garbois (1847–1921) and Professor Henry Brougham Leech LLD (1843–1921). He went to school at St Columba's College, Dublin in Rathfarnham, later studying at the Metropolitan School. He later transferred to the Royal Hibernian Academy and studied under Walter Osborne. In 1903, Leech left Dublin for Paris, where he would fall in love with the French landscape. After he returned to Dublin from Brittany in 1906 he was soon embraced into the artistic circle of George Russell (A.E.), Constance Gore-Booth and her husband Casimir Dunin Markievicz.
