Standard Port
A Standard port is a port whose tidal predictions are directly given in the Tide tables. Tide predictions for standard ports are based on continuous observation of tide over a period of at least one year. These predictions are given in feet or meters, with respect to the chart datum for average meteorological conditions. Some examples of primary ports are Bhavnagar, Bombay, Cochin, Manila, Karachi, Singapore, Suez, Port Dickson, etc. Standard ports are marked in bold letters in the Index pages of Admiralty Tide Tables (or Tidal almanac). Tidal predictions are usually made by the Bureau of Meteorology of that country. Secondary ports (also called ''Secondary place'' in some countries like Australia), on the other hand, are ports for which tides have to be calculated, based on a primary port with a similar tidal curve. Port
A port is a maritime facility comprising one or more wharves or loading areas, where ships load and discharge cargo and passengers. Although usually situated on a sea coast or estuary, ports can also be found far inland, such as Hamburg, Manchester and Duluth; these access the sea via rivers or canals. Because of their roles as ports of entry for immigrants as well as soldiers in wartime, many port cities have experienced dramatic multi-ethnic and multicultural changes throughout their histories. Ports are extremely important to the global economy; 70% of global merchandise trade by value passes through a port. For this reason, ports are also often densely populated settlements that provide the labor for processing and handling goods and related services for the ports.
