Stan (foaled in 1950 in England) was a Thoroughbred racehorse who raced in England and in the United States where he was the 1954 American Champion Male Turf Horse. Kingsway (horse)
Kingsway (foaled 1940) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire, best known for winning the classic 2000 Guineas in 1943. After being bought for 1,000 guineas in 1941 he showed promise by winning two of his three races as a two-year-old in 1942. Following a change of trainer he won on his debut in 1943 and then recorded an upset win over a strong field in the 2000 Guineas. He was beaten when tried over longer distances in the New Derby and the New St Leger before finishing second to Nasrullah in the Champion Stakes. He won four times as a four-year-old before being retired to stud. He had little success as a breeding stallion in Europe but sired two major winners in the United States. Hialeah Turf Cup Handicap
The Hialeah Turf Cup Handicap is a discontinued American Thoroughbred horse race open to horses aged three and older that was run each year at Hialeah Park Race Track in Hialeah, Florida until the track closed at the end of the 2001 racing season. At the time, it was the oldest grass race in America. The race was inaugurated as the Miami Cup Handicap ion March 13, 1926 and was open to horses age three and older. In addition to the President's gold cup, winner Boon Companion received what at the time was a very sizeable winner's purse of $24,950. From 1929 through 1952 it was run as the Miami Beach Handicap then in 1953 was renamed the Hialeah Turf Cup Handicap. The race was run on dirt until 1939 when it was permanently moved to the turf. American Champion Male Turf Horse
The American Champion Male Turf Horse award is an American Thoroughbred horse racing honor. The award originated in 1953 when the ''Daily Racing Form'' (DRF) named Iceberg II their champion. The Thoroughbred Racing Association (TRA) added the category in 1967. The organisations disagreed only once, in 1968. In 1971 it became part of the Eclipse Awards program and is awarded annually to a Colt or Gelding, regardless of age, for their performance on grass race courses. The ''Daily Racing Form'', the Thoroughbred Racing Associations, and the National Turf Writers Association all joined forces in 1971 to create the Eclipse Award. From 1953 through 1978 it was awarded to male or female horses although the only female champion was Dahlia in 1974. In 1979 an individual category was created for each of the sexes. Laurel Turf Cup Handicap
The Japan Turf Cup Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run, held annually at Maryland's Laurel Park Racecourse. Open to horses age three and older, it is currently run on grass at a distance of one and one-half miles. Previously run as the Laurel Turf Cup Stakes, it was renamed the Japan Turf Cup Stakes in 2019. The race was a grade three race from 1985 through 2000. The Turf Cup was taken off the grass and run on the dirt of the main track on the following years; 1971, 72, 75, 76, 85, 86, 90, 96 and 1997. The race was not run between 2007-2010. It was announced by Laurel Park that the famed race would be restored in 2012 and run on October 27 at 12 furlongs and named the Laurel Turf Cup Stakes. Fairway (1925–1948) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Fairway was the best horse of his generation in Britain at two, three and four years old, winning the St Leger Stakes, the Champion Stakes (twice) and the Eclipse Stakes. He retired as a five-year-old in 1930 and went on to become a successful and influential sire., pp.206 Background Fairway was bred in England by his owner Lord Derby who also bred both of his parents. His sire Phalaris was an outstanding sprinter who went on to become the most influential stallion of the 20th century. His dam, Scapa Flow, also produced Fairway's sister Fair Isle who won the 1000 Guineas and his brother Pharos who finished second in The Derby and sired Nearco.
