Pikine
Pikine is a city in the Pikine Department of the Dakar Region of Senegal. Lying to the east of Dakar city centre, at the 2013 Census it had a population of 1,170,791. The department includes the villages of Yeumbeul, Thiaroye, Mbao, and Keur Massar Malika. Until the mid-2000s, it also included Guédiawaye, which now forms a separate Department. The city was founded in 1952 by the colonial government for former residents of Dakar who were relocated for new developments. This original city is now known as "Old Pikine", while an informal community has grown up around it. Association Sportive de Pikine or simply AS Pikine is a Senegalese football club based in Pikine. They play at Stade Alassane Djigo, which has a capacity of 5,000. History The earlier club was established in 1921 and was called Niayes-Pikine. The modern club was established in 1970, first known as ASC Niayes-Pikine up to the 2000s. AS Pikine entered Ligue 1 in 2009. AS Douanes is a Senegalese professional football club based in Dakar. The current chairman as of 2016 is Alassane Ndione. Douanes also has the third most number of major honours won in Senegal numbering 14, they 6 championship and cup titles, a super cup and a league cup. The club plays at Stade Demba Diop, sometimes they play at Stade Alassane Djigo. History The club was founded in 1980. Not long after the foundation, as they were only three tiers at the time, the club went to Division 1 in 1984 and participated there.
