St Huberts Island is a canal estate and suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia connected to the mainland at Daleys Point. It is part of the local government area. The modern-day development of St Huberts Island happened when Hooker-Rex Developments (now LJ Hooker Realty) built residential developments on the site in the early-1970s. The population of the suburb recorded at the 2016 census was 1,058. St Huberts Island is located within the Brisbane Water at its southern end. The Central Coast is a peri-urban region in New South Wales, Australia, lying on the Tasman Sea coast to the north of Sydney and south of Newcastle. The local government area of the Central Coast Council has an estimated population of 333,627 as of June 2018, growing by 1% annually. Comprising localities such as Gosford, Wyong and Terrigal, the area is the third-largest urban area in New South Wales and the ninth-largest urban area in Australia. Terrigal is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by Adam Crouch of the Liberal Party. It includes the eastern suburbs of the Central Coast Council, formerly part of the City of Gosford. History Terrigal was created at the redistribution prior to the 2007 election and consisted of much of the district of Gosford, then held by Chris Hartcher for the Liberal Party, while Gosford absorbed most of the former district of Peats, then held by Marie Andrews for the Labor Party. Saratoga is a residential south-eastern village and suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located on a peninsula of Brisbane Water and part of the local government area. The suburb is characterised by its largely settled shoreline, with houses extending up coastal slopes to the base of the tall hills that comprise the core of the peninsula. The village of Saratoga occupies the central portion of its peninsula, bordered towards the point by Davistown and toward the mainland by Yattalunga. Davistown is a south-eastern suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the local government area. The suburb is serviced by a small shopping centre, Paringa Mall, and the Davistown RSL. It is populated mostly by young families and elderly retirees. Empire Bay is a suburb on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the local government area. Empire Bay was originally known as ''Sorrento'' being the name of a large boarding house in the locality. The land was subdivided in 1905. The name changed to Empire Bay in 1908 when a Postal Receiving Office was opened in a building attached to the boarding house. The name was changed because there was already a post office named Sorrento in Victoria and Empire Bay was chosen because there was no other such name in the Commonwealth. Canal Estate
A canal estate, canal development, waterway estate or marine suburb is a residential subdivision made up of canals and reclaimed land, such that many or all of the lots can incorporate a private mooring or boat ramp. Canal estates are typically constructed on floodplains or swampland in estuaries, providing ready access to larger waterways and the ocean. To build the estate, civil contractors will dredge parts of the site to create deep, navigable channels, and use the resulting fill to form islands and headlands above the flood level. The resulting street layout shows a distinctive 'finger' pattern.
