Sri Lanka At The 2018 Asian Para Games
Sri Lanka took part in the 2018 Asian Para Games which was held in Jakarta from 6 to 13 October 2018, sent a delegation consisting of 30 para-athletes in 9 different sporting events. The 2016 Rio Paralympic medalist Dinesh Priyantha Herath was the skipper and the flagbearer for the contingent. Sri Lanka secured 5 medals on the opening day of the Asian Para Games. Sri Lanka claimed 13 medals solely in the event of para-athletics during the competition including 4 gold medals and finished at 14th position out of 43 nations. Sri Lanka also secured all three medals across two tracks and field events during the competition, which was the first-ever instance in Sri Lankan sports history. Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Priyantha set a new Asian Para Games record in a javelin throw of 61.84m to secure a gold medal in the men's F46 javelin throw event. The 2018 Asian Para Games ( id, Pesta Olahraga Difabel Asia 2018, ''Asian Para Games 2018''), officially known as the 3rd Asian Para Games and also known as Indonesia 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event that held from 6 to 13 October 2018 in Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta. The event paralleled the 2018 Asian Games and was held for Asian athletes with disability. It was the first time Indonesia hosted the games. Events were held in the host city Jakarta and in Bogor Regency of West Java province. The opening ceremony was held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, while the closing ceremony was held at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium next door. Herath Mudiyansalage Dinesh Priyantha, also simply known as Dinesh Priyantha (born 15 July 1986), is a Sri Lankan Paralympian, Paralympic track and field athlete who competes in javelin T46 (classification), T46 events. He also served as an important member for the Sri Lanka Army during the Sri Lankan Civil War. He was disabled after being shot at his left arm during the final stages of the war. He is the defending Paralympic champion in men's javelin throw F46 category. The Asian Para Games also known as Para Asiad is a multi-sport event regulated by the Asian Paralympic Committee that's held every four years after every Asian Games for athletes with physical disabilities. Both events had adopted the strategy used by the Olympic and Paralympic Games of having both games in the same city. However, the exclusion of Asian Para Games from Asian Games host city contract meant that both events run independently of each other. Amara Lallwala Palliyagurunnans (born 1986), also known as Amara Indumathi, is a Sri Lankan female Paralympic athlete. She competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Kumudu Priyanka Dissanayake Mudiyanselage (born 26 March 1988) is a Sri Lankan Paralympic track and field athlete who is also a current world record holder in women's 200m T45 category. She made her first Paralympic appearance representing Sri Lanka at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Biography She lost both her hands and vision in one of her eyes at the age of 16 due to a hand grenade explosion. She is also current employed at MAS Holdings. Career She made her debut in para-athletics during the 2006 Para Athletics National Meet. Suresh Dharmasena
Suresh Ranjan Dharmasena (born 24 June 1989), also known as DSR Dharmasena, is a Sri Lankan wheelchair tennis player. He became a Paralympic competitor after sustaining injuries in the civil war. He made his first Paralympic appearance representing Sri Lanka at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Biography He was raised in Kahatagasdigiliya in the Anuradhapura District. He pursued primary and secondary education at the Kahatagasdigiliya Central College. He joined Sri Lanka Armoured Corps at the age of 18 in 2007 and served as a lance bombardier (artillery regiment) in the Sri Lankan Army. His left foot was severely injured and had to be amputated when he stepped on an anti-personnel mine on 23 February 2009.
