Spurger ( ) is an unincorporated community in southeastern Tyler County, Texas, United States. The Spurger Independent School District serves area students. Historical development The first area settlers are known to be in the region as early as 1834. The town's name ''Spurger'' comes from a family of landowners who resided there initially. From 1859 a school was established there, and by 1881 a post office was opened. The Neches River flows through the community. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. A humid subtropical climate is a zone of climate characterized by hot and humid summers, and cool to mild winters. These climates normally lie on the southeast side of all continents (except Antarctica), generally between latitudes 25° and 40° and are located poleward from adjacent tropical climates. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936. Neches River
The Neches River () begins in Van Zandt County west of Rhine Lake and flows for through the piney woods of east Texas, defining the boundaries of 14 counties on its way to its mouth on Sabine Lake near the Rainbow Bridge. Two major reservoirs, Lake Palestine and B. A. Steinhagen Reservoir are located on the Neches. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
