Springtown Camp
Springtown Camp was a former United States military camp near Derry, Northern Ireland, that housed up to 400 Catholic families in the 1940s to 1960s in substandard housing rented by the local authority. The outcry over the Unionist-controlled city council's failure to re-house the tenants in proper buildings gave rise to some of the first Northern Irish civil rights protests of the 1960s. Beginnings Springtown Camp was built by the United States Navy during World War II and consisted of 302 corrugated iron Nissen huts and a number of other temporary buildings. It was sited in the western outskirts of the city, off the Buncrana Road, in an area now redeveloped as an industrial estate, and was part of the US Navy's "Base One Europe", accommodating arriving Marines and Navy personnel. Springtown is a town in Benton County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 83 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Northwest Arkansas region. History The first settlement at Springtown was made in the 1840s. The town was platted in 1871. A post office called Springtown was established in 1871, and remained in operation until 1998. The community was named for a spring near the original town site. Geography Springtown is located in southwest Benton County at (36.260908, -94.422370), between Highfill and Gentry. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. Springtown, California
Springtown (formerly, Confederate Corners) is an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California, United States. History Originally Springtown or Spring Town, the place was named Confederate Corners after some Southerners settled there in the late 1860s. The early settlement included a general store and a wagon-making factory. In the 1960s, it was considered that the community should become a retirement community. The place is the inspiration for the fictional small town "Rebel Corners" in John Steinbeck's novel '' The Wayward Bus''. It is located south-southwest of Salinas, at the corner of California State Route 68 and Hitchcock Road. Name change In 2017 a local campaign was started to rename the area. Springtown, New Jersey
Springtown is an unincorporated community in Greenwich Township, in Cumberland County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Springtown is located approximately west of Bridgeton, New Jersey. Springtown, and the nearby community of Othello, were both founded shortly after the American Revolution by African Americans. History Legislation enacted in 1786 enabled Quakers living in Greenwich Township to sell tracts of land to " free negros". Many African Americans soon located to Springtown, and the community became a center of abolitionist activity.
