Springfield Township is one of the nine townships of Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population as of 2018 is 14,555 residents. Springfield High School (Lakemore, Ohio)
Springfield High School is a public high school in Lakemore, Ohio, United States, just east of Akron. It is the only high school in the Springfield Local School District and serves students living in Lakemore and Springfield Township. Construction The current high school was built to replace the district's old high school. The building was constructed by Cavanaugh Building in 2013. The new high school cost $42 million to build, and was supposed to be opened in the fall of 2013, but due to structural issues on the second floor the opening was delayed. The school began operations in early 2014 and has been in use since. Ernest Angley
Ernest Winston Angley (August 9, 1921 – May 7, 2021) was an American Christian evangelist, author, and television station owner who was based in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio from the 1950s until his death in 2021. Ernest Angley was a native of Mooresville, Iredell County, North Carolina. In his autobiography, he details his early life being raised in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area as a Baptist, and at the age of 18 accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior. In the early 1950s, he moved to Northeast Ohio as a traveling "salvation and healing" Pentecostal evangelist. Walt Arfons
Walter Charles Arfons (December 10, 1916 – June 4, 2013) was the half brother of Art Arfons, his former partner in drag racing, and his competitor in jet-powered land speed record racing. Along with Art, he was a pioneer in the use of aircraft jet engines for these types of competition. Walt was born Walter Stroud, on 10 December 1916 in Muncie, IN. His mother, Bessie, was half Cherokee, and died in 1983 at age 84. Walt had one brother, Dale, two years younger, as well as his ten years younger half-brother Art and an eight and a half years younger half-sister "Lou", both from his mother's marriage to Tom Arfons. Arfons' family operated a feed mill in rural Springfield Township, Ohio, where the Arfons brothers exercised their mechanical skills and ingenuity. Art Arfons
Arthur Eugene Arfons (February 3, 1926 – December 3, 2007) was the world land speed record holder three times from 1964 to 1965 with his ''Green Monster'' series of jet-powered cars, after a series of ''Green Monster'' piston-engine and jet-engined dragsters. He subsequently went on to field a succession of ''Green Monster'' turbine-engined pulling tractors, before returning to land speed record racing. He was announced as a 2008 inductee in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame three days after his death. Family Art Arfons' father, Tom, was born in Greece and came to the United States at age 14. He settled in Akron, Ohio, where Art was born. Tom died in 1950, at age 52. Ellet High School
Ellet Community Learning Center, formerly known as Ellet High School, is a public high school in Akron, Ohio. It is one of eight high schools in the Akron City School District. Ellet's daily enrollment for the 2012–2013 school year was 1,147. History and previous building (1950-2019) The bulk of the land in the Ellet District was purchased in 1810 from Simon Perkins by three sons of Samuel Ellet, an early settler who moved into the area that year. The Ellet District was annexed to the city of Akron in 1929 and became part of Akron Public Schools the same year. A new Ellet High School on Woolf Avenue opened in 1950. Additions to the school were built in 1957, 1975 and 1987. The school replaced the older Ellet High School on Canton Road, which had served both elementary and high school students since 1891. Connecticut Western Reserve
The Connecticut Western Reserve was a portion of land claimed by the Colony of Connecticut and later by the state of Connecticut in what is now mostly the northeastern region of Ohio. The Reserve had been granted to the Colony under the terms of its charter by King Charles II. Connecticut relinquished its claim to some of its western lands to the United States in 1786 following the American Revolutionary War and preceding the 1787 establishment of the Northwest Territory. Despite ceding sovereignty to the United States, Connecticut retained ownership of the eastern portion of its cession, south of Lake Erie. It sold much of this "Western Reserve" to a group of speculators who operated as the Connecticut Land Company; they sold it in portions for development by new settlers.
