Sportsperson Of The Year (Czechoslovakia)
Sportsperson of the Year ( cs, Sportovec roku, sk, Športovec roka) was a prize awarded annually to the best athletes of Czechoslovakia from 1959 to 1992 by the Club of Czechoslovak Sports Journalists. The first winner was white-water canoer Vladimír Jirásek. From 1961 the prize was also given to the best sports team; the first team recipient was the Czechoslovakia national ice hockey team. Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the prize has continued in both successor countries as the Sportsperson of the Year of the Czech Republic and the Sportsperson of the Year of Slovakia. The individual prize was usually awarded to a single sportsperson, but on two occasions, two people received it – Eva Romanová and Pavel Roman ( ice dancers) in 1962, and the Pospíšil brothers ( cycle-ball players) in 1979. Květa Jeriová
Květoslava Jeriová-Pecková (; alternatively also Květa Jeriová-Pecková; born Květoslava Jeriová, 10 October 1956) is a former Czech cross-country skier. She competed from 1980 to 1984. She won three medals at the Winter Olympics with a silver at the 4 × 5 km relay (1984) and two bronzes in the 5 km (1980, 1984). Jeriová was the most successful Czech woman cross-country skier until Kateřina Neumannová came along in the 1990s. She also won a bronze medal in the 10 km at the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and won a total of eight World cup events during her short career. Ice Dancing
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is BB. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. Gymnastics At The 1960 Summer Olympics
At the 1960 Summer Olympics, fourteen different artistic gymnastics events were contested, eight for men and six for women. All events were held in the Baths of Caracalla in Rome from September 5 through 10th. Format of competition The scoring in the team competition and in the all-around was the same, as for gymnastics events at the previous Olympics (there was no ''team, portable apparatus'' event, however). But apart from two performances:a compulsory and an optional, which counted for both the team competition and the all-around, a gymnast, who competed in an apparatus final should show one's skills once more on the respective apparatus. For the final score ("Total" column in tables below), the compulsory routine's mark was added to the optional routine's, the result was divided by two ("Prelim" column) and added to the third routine's mark ("Final" column).
