Sporting De Gijón (women)
Real Sporting de Gijón Femenino is the women's Association football, football team of Asturias, Asturian football club Sporting de Gijón. History Founded in 1995, the club was renamed as Club Deportivo Escuela de Fútbol de Mareo Femenino in 1999 as part of an agreement with Gijón's town hall, the club decided to rename the team again as Real Sporting de Gijón Femenino in 2016, and to declare it as the official women's section of the club. The club played from 1996 to 2001 in Primera División (women), Primera División, when it was composed by multiple groups. In 2018, the club signed for the first time players from out from Asturias. Despite not gaining a spot for the smaller Segunda División next season, after spending 18 consecutive seasons in Segunda División (women), Segunda División, on 31 July 2019, the Royal Spanish Football Federation gave to the club the vacant place of Atlántida Matamá in the newly created Segunda División Pro (women), Segunda División. Escuela De Fútbol De Mareo
The Escuela de Fútbol de Mareo, officially Escuela de Fútbol Ángel Viejo Feliú, is the training ground and academy base of the Spanish football club Sporting de Gijón. It was officially opened in 1978 and used by the main team and the youth teams of the club. The designer was architect Miguel Díaz Negrete. Covering an area of 112,000 m² in the parish of Leorio, Gijón, it is used since 1978 for youth and senior teams trainings. The Primera Nacional Femenina de Fútbol is the fourth tier of league competition for Spanish women's football. It is the female equivalent of the men's Segunda División RFEF and is run by the Real Federación Española de Fútbol. The 2019–20 Segunda División Pro, named Reto Iberdrola for sponsorship reasons, was the inaugural season edition of the new Spanish women's football second-tier league. The league started on 7 September 2019 and will end on 17 May 2020. On 6 May 2020, the Royal Spanish Football Federation announced the premature end of the league, revoking relegations and naming Eibar and Santa Teresa as promoted teams. Teams and locations 32 teams took part, 30 moving up from the 2018–19 Segunda División and 2 relegated from the 2018–19 Primera División. Atlántida Matamá resigned to its place in the league. The 2019–20 Sporting de Gijón season was the club's 114th season in existence and the club's 48th season in the second tier of Spanish football, and the third year since its most recent relegation. It covered a period from 1 July 2019 to 20 July 2020, when the last league match was played. Season overview Pre-season The pre-season started with Roberto Canella leaving Real Sporting after 20 years and playing more than 300 games with the ''Rojiblancos''. The first signing of the season was midfielder Javi Fuego, who came back to the team after twelve years. Competition format The Segunda División was divided into seven inter-regional groups. Each group played their season as home and away round-robin format.
