Spongecola
Sponge Cola (sometimes spelled Spongecola) is a Filipino rock band formed in 2002. The band is composed of Yael Yuzon on vocals and guitars, Gosh Dilay on bass, Armo Armovit on guitars and drummer Tedmark Cruz. One of the most popular rock bands in the Philippines, Sponge Cola has produced a number of hit songs, including "Jeepney", "KLSP", "Gemini", "Bitiw", "Tuliro", "Di Na Mababawi", "Tambay", "Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay", and "XGF". The band's debut album, '' Palabas'', was released in 2004. It was followed by ''Transit'' (2006) and ''Sponge Cola'' (2008), the latter of which was the last to feature their original drummer Chris Cantada. The band has released a total of seven albums to date, as well as several extended plays (EPs). Their eighth full-length album, ''Classic'', is set to be released in 2022. Gosh Dilay
Reynaldo "Gosh" R. Dilay (born February 6, 1985) is a Filipino musician best known as the bassist, backing vocalist and the primary composer & lyricist of the band Sponge Cola. Early life Dilay attended high school at Ateneo de Manila University. Career Between 1998 and 2002, Ysmael "Yael" Yuzon, met Reynaldo "Gosh" Dilay through the school's theater guild, Teatro Baguntao. Yuzon was then the frontman of a rock band called White Chapel together with some talented individuals in Ateneo High School. Nevertheless, he decided to form a band with Dilay and two other members of the theater guild. They named the group Sponge after R.S. Surtee's Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour. Later however, they learned about a Detroit grunge band already using the name Sponge, so they just simply decided to add “cola,” to give their name more semblance. Yael Yuzon
Ysmael "Yael" Yrastorza Yuzon (; born November 22, 1983) is a Filipino musician, best known as the vocalist and guitarist of the band Sponge Cola. Early life Ysmael Yrastorza Yuzon was born on November 22, 1983 in Manila, Philippines. His elder brother is Yan Yuzon (of the bands Pupil and Archipelago) and he has a younger sister named Ysabel. His mother Elsa is a retired flight attendant and his father Johnny, a retired accountant. He is of Basque origin, as his grandfather was an immigrant from Gipuzkoa, Spain. He is a first cousin of Filipino singer and actress Donna Cruz. Yuzon graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. ''Palabas'' is the debut studio album by Filipino rock band Sponge Cola. It was released on October 18, 2004, undeSony Music Philippines This album contains some songs that the band members made even before the group was officially formed, and includes an abundance of Tagalog-language tracks. ''Palabas'' spawned the singles "KLSP", "Lunes", "Gemini", "Una", and "Jeepney". An additional song, "Dragonfly", was released as online single in April 2006. The album was certified Gold by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) in 2005 with sales of 15,000 physical CD copies. To date the album has sold over 28,000 pure CD copies. In 2005, Sponge Cola released a repackaged edition of the album with a bonus CD that contains a music video for "Gemini", and some bonus audio tracks, including a remastered version of "Gemini", acoustic versions of "KLSP" and "Jeepney", and an unreleased track titled "Boundless". Transit (Sponge Cola Album)
''Transit'' is the second studio album by the Pinoy rock band Sponge Cola, released on September 8, 2006, and their first under Universal Records. The album was certified Platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) with sales of 40,000 physical CD copies to date. ''Transit'' spawned a carrier single, "Bitiw", which was released to radio stations on August 23. In 2008, ''Transit'' was re-released as ''Transit Deluxe'', which features additional songs, acoustic versions of songs, a cover song by APO Hiking Society, and a radio edit version, as well as a Video CD (VCD) containing music videos. Chris Cantada
Chris Cantada is a Filipino musician, vlogger and cosplayer best known as the former drummer and backing vocalist of the band Sponge Cola. He was featured in the music video of Sponge Cola's "Tambay" in a cameo guest appearance per post band departure. Cantada released his solo album ''Heartbeat'' with the carrier single of the same name. The music video for "Heartbeat" shows Cantada played all musical instruments for the song. ''Sponge Cola'' is the self-titled third studio album by the Pinoy rock band Sponge Cola. Under Universal Records, Sponge Cola is already out in all major record bars. This was the last album to feature original drummer Chris Cantada who left the band following the release of the album due to a health problem. "Puso" is the first single from the album and is frequently heard after games during the UAAP Broadcast on Studio 23 as it was selected as the theme song for season 71. Their 2nd single "Di Na Mababawi", marked the band's departure from the standard full band rock formula, opting for simpler instrumentation. They then released the repackaged version of this album along with the 3rd single Ayt. The new version of the song featured Gary Valenciano on vocals and synths. Grunge
Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is an alternative rock genre and subculture that emerged during the in the American Pacific Northwest state of Washington, particularly in Seattle and nearby towns.
