Sperillen Line
The Sperillen Line ( no, Sperillbanen) is an abandoned railway which ran through Ringerike in Viken county, Norway. The long line had five stations, starting at Hen Station on the Randsfjord Line and continuing to Lake Sperillen where it connected with a ferry at the port of Finstad. The rail line had additional stations and stops at Hallingby, Somma, and Ringmoen at the south end of Lake Sperillen. The steam ship DS ''Bægna'' had provided ferry and freight transport service from the southern end of Lake Sperillen to Sørum at Sør-Aurdal in Oppland at the northern end. ''Bægna'' went in service from her maiden voyage on 13 October 1868 and continued in traffic until 1929, when it was replaced with a motor ship, DS ''Spirillen''. Ådal is a valley in the municipality of Ringerike (municipality), Ringerike and was a former municipality in Buskerud County, Norway. The municipality was created in 1857 by a split from Norderhov. At that time Ådal had a population of 2,382. On 1 January 1964 Ådal was merged with Hønefoss, Tyristrand, Hole, Norway, Hole and Norderhov to form the new municipality Ringerike (municipality), Ringerike. Prior to the merger Ådal had a population of 3,442. Traditionally the Ådal parish has been divided three ways. Ytre Ådal includes the village of Hallingby and is the site of Hallingby school and Hval Church (''Hval kirke''). Begna (river)
The Begna is a river in Viken and Innlandet counties in Norway. The long river runs from the Filefjell mountain area through Valdres to the town of Hønefoss where it joins the river Randselva before it empties into the Tyrifjorden. The river Begna drains a watershed of and this is the primary river in the watershed. Along its course, the river passes through the village of Begna in Sør-Aurdal Municipality. The Norwegian writer, Mikkjel Fønhus lived much of his life and located most of his novels along the river Begna. Course The headwaters of the river is found in the Filefjell mountain plateau on the south side of the Jotunheimen mountains. Among the highest points of the headwaters are the lake Steinurdalstjern which sits at an elevation of above sea level. Begnadalen
Begnadalen or Begndalen is a valley in Norway. The valley runs through Sør-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county and Ringerike Municipality in Viken county. The long valley follows the river Begna from Bagn to the lake Sperillen. The European route E16 passes through the valley. In the central part of the valley, the Church of Norway has a church which is called the Begnadalen Church. The main Begnadalen valley has several smaller side valleys that branch off of it. The Hedalen valley extends to the south and west of the main valley. Ringerike (municipality)
Ringerike is a municipality in the traditional and electoral district Buskerud in Viken county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Ringerike. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Hønefoss. The municipality of Ringerike was created on 1 January 1964 after the merger of the town of Hønefoss and the rural municipalities of Hole, Norderhov, Tyristrand, and Ã…dal. However, the area of Hole was removed from the municipality of Ringerike on 1 January 1977 to become a separate municipality once again. Oppland
Oppland is a former county in Norway which existed from 1781 until its dissolution on 1 January 2020. The old Oppland county bordered the counties of Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal, Sogn og Fjordane, Buskerud, Akershus, Oslo and Hedmark. The county administration was located in the town of Lillehammer. Merger On 1 January 2020, the neighboring counties of Oppland and Hedmark were merged to form the new Innlandet county. Viken (county)
Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority.
