Spain At The UCI Road World Championships
Spain at the UCI Road World Championships is an overview of the Spanish results at the UCI Road World Championships. The Spanish competitors are selected by coaches of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation. Apart from cycling events at the four-yearly Summer Olympics, the only times that road cyclists appear in proper national selections (instead of in commercial cycling teams) of one or multiple athletes are the yearly UCI Road World Championships. Because of this, all Spanish national road cycling teams (either elite, amateur or younger teams) only compete as such during one day per year. The nation's first medal, a silver, was earned by Luciano Montero in the men's road race in 1935. José Manuel Lasa
José Manuel Lasa (born 21 May 1939) is a Spanish former cyclist. He competed in the individual road race at the 1964 Summer Olympics and finished fourth overall in the 1969 Vuelta a España. He is the older brother of fellow cyclist Miguel María Lasa. Luis Ocaña
Jesús Luis Ocaña Pernía (; 9 June 1945 – 19 May 1994) was a Spanish road bicycle racer who won the 1973 Tour de France and the 1970 Vuelta a España. During the 1971 Tour de France he launched an amazing solo breakaway that put him into the Yellow Jersey and stunned the rest of the main field, including back to back Tour champion Eddy Merckx, but abandoned in the fourteenth stage after a crash on the descent of the Col de Menté. Ocaña would abandon as many Tours as he entered, but he finished every Vuelta a España he entered except for his first, and finished in the top 5 seven times in a row. Career Early years Ocaña was born in Priego, Cuenca, Spain but his family moved to Mont-de-Marsan ( Landes, France) in 1957. Ocaña took up racing with a club in Mont-de-Marsan and began his professional career in 1968 with the Spanish Fagor team, becoming Spanish champion that year.
