SpVgg Grün-Weiss Deggendorf
The SpVgg Grün-Weiss Deggendorf is a German association football club from the town of Deggendorf, Bavaria. SpVgg Grün-Weiss Deggendorf was formed in 2003 in a merger of SpVgg Deggendorf and SV Grün-Weiss Deggendorf. Of those two clubs SpVgg Deggendorf was by far the more successful, having spent eight seasons in the third tier Bayernliga between 1953 and 1962. The new club's greatest success came in 2012 when it qualified for the new southern division of the expanded Bayernliga, now the fifth tier of the German football league system, but the club lasted for only one season at this level. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. The Landesliga Bayern sits at step 6 of the German football league system and is the third highest level in the Bavarian football league system, below the Bayernliga and organised in five regional divisions. The seven Bezirksoberligas Bayern were the third highest level of the Bavarian football league system, below the Bayernliga and the Landesliga Bayern from 1988 to 2012. The Landesliga Bayern-Mitte ( en, State league Bavaria-Central) was the sixth tier of the German football league system in southern Bavaria. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008, it was the fifth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the fourth tier. The winner of the Landesliga-Mitte automatically qualified for the Bayernliga, the runners-up needed to compete with the runners-up of the other four Landesligas and the 15th placed teams of the Bayernligas for another promotion spot. The league was disbanded in 2012, when the Regionalliga Bayern was introduced as the new fourth tier of the German league system in Bavaria.
