Souvenir (play)
''Souvenir'' is a two-character play, with incidental music, by Stephen Temperley. Overview In a Greenwich Village supper club in 1964, Cosmé McMoon flashes back to the musical career of Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy socialite with a famously uncertain sense of pitch and key. In 1932, she met mediocre pianist Cosmé McMoon, and the two teamed up in the hope of achieving success. Over the next dozen years, their bizarre partnership yielded hilariously off-key recitals that became the talk of New York, earned them cultish fame. The play culminates in a sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall in 1944, where the audience "turns on her in gales of derisive guffaws." Désirée Gerda Saskia Pamela Amneris Aida Nick (born 30 September 1956 in West-Berlin) is a German reality television personality, actress, dancer, and author. The Komödie im Bayerischen Hof is a large private theater in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Comedies, musical comedies, musicals and revues are performed in the 570-seat theater. History The cultural events in the hotel began in 1886, but due to the destruction of Munich in 1944 abruptly ended. After the reconstruction, the grandmother of the present owner of the hotel who was a celebrated singer set up a concert hall. Her son Falk Volkhardt commissioned architect Erwin Schleich with the design of today's theater which was opened in 1961 under the direction of Gerhard Metzner with the comedy "Das Glas Wasser" by Eugène Scribe. The San Jose Repertory Theatre (a.k.a. San Jose Rep) was the first resident professional theatre company in San Jose, California. It was founded in 1980 by James P. Reber. In 2008, after the demise of the American Musical Theatre of San Jose, the San Jose Rep became the largest non-profit, professional theatre company in the South Bay with an annual operating budget of $5 million. The Elliot Norton Awards are presented annually to honor the best achievements in Boston-area theater. The genesis of the awards was the Norton Medal, which was first awarded in 1983 and was named after long-time theater critic Elliot Norton (1903-2003), a 1922 graduate of Boston Latin School, who had retired in 1982 after 48 years as a Boston theater critic. The Lyric Stage Company of Boston is the oldest professional theatre company in Boston. Founded in 1974, the non-profit theatre is located in the YWCA building at 140 Clarendon Street. The Drama Desk Award is an annual prize recognizing excellence in New York theatre. First bestowed in 1955 as the Vernon Rice Award, the prize initially honored Off-Broadway productions, as well as Off-off-Broadway, and those in the vicinity.
