Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs
The Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs (also SWOSU Bulldogs) are the athletic teams that represent Southwestern Oklahoma State University, located in Weatherford, Oklahoma, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. Southwestern Oklahoma State University
Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) is a public university in Weatherford and Sayre, Oklahoma. It is one of six Regional University System of Oklahoma members. History SWOSU was first established through an act of the Oklahoma Territorial Legislature in 1901 as Southwestern Normal School, although no classes were held until 1903. Several towns fought a court battle to become the home of the new school, but Weatherford won the battle. The normal school included both a two-year degree program for teacher education and a preparatory school. In 1920, the preparatory part of the school closed and a four-year baccalaureate degree program replaced it. The first bachelor's degrees by the renamed Southwestern State Teachers College were awarded in the spring of 1921. The Great Depression brought several attempts to close the school for financial reasons. It had to remove several presidents to survive politically. But it did survive. V'Keon Lacey
V'Keon Lacey (born August 8, 1988) is an American football wide receiver who is currently a free agent. He first enrolled at Cisco College before transferring to the Southwestern Oklahoma State University and lastly Angelo State University. He attended Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas Lacey has also been a member of the Jacksonville Sharks, Cedar Rapids Titans, San Jose SaberCats, Philadelphia Soul and Portland Thunder. Rocky Walcher
Rocky Walcher (born October 12, 1961) is an American professional golfer. Walcher was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He played college golf at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He was inducted into the SWOSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. Walcher played on the Nationwide Tour and the PGA Tour between 1991 and 2003. Jim Simmons (American Football)
James Ellington "Jenks" Simmons (April 3, 1903 – January 16, 1977) was an American football back who played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Bulldogs and Providence Steam Roller. He played college football at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and attended Sentinel High School in Sentinel, Oklahoma. College career Simmons participated in football, basketball, track and baseball for the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs. Arnie Shockley
Arnold A. Shockley (August 31, 1903 – April 27, 1988) was a professional football player who spent one season in the National Football League (NFL) with the Boston Bulldogs, in 1929. Shockley was an all-conference tackle at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1926 and 1927. He then went on to be a coach and administrator working for more than 30 years in schools at Jackson, Greer and Kiowa counties. He spent his last 13 years working at Mountain View High School before retiring in 1965. He was inducted into the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1965. Robert Allen Ryan (born December 13, 1962) is an American football coach who is currently the senior defensive assistant for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). Ryan has served as a defensive coordinator or assistant coach for seven different NFL teams. Rex Ashley Ryan (born December 13, 1962) is an American former football coach and analyst. Ryan was formerly the head coach of the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL), and also held various coaching positions with eight other NFL and college teams. Grady Lewis
Grady W. Lewis (March 25, 1917 – March 11, 2009) was an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs and Oklahoma Sooners. Lewis played four seasons with the Phillips 66 Oilers of the AAU, and three seasons (1946–1949) in the Basketball Association of America as a member of the Detroit Falcons, St. Louis Bombers, and Baltimore Bullets.
