South Sudan National Basketball Team
The South Sudan national basketball team is the national basketball team representing South Sudan. Its official name is South Sudan Basketball Federation. It was established in May 2011, and became a member of FIBA in December 2013. They are nicknamed the Bright Stars. The most recently founded national basketball team in FIBA, South Sudan has already played at one AfroBasket tournament in 2021 and has qualified for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. History The team played its first unofficial match in Juba against Ugandan club champions Power on 13th July 2011, in Juba. Power won the match 86–84. In 2016, the team played in a exhibition tournament named Idigenous Basketball Competition in Vancouver, Canada. Royal Ivey
Royal Terence Ivey (born December 20, 1981) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is also the head coach of the South Sudanese national basketball team. He played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns before spending 10 years in the NBA. Early life and college Ivey was born in Harlem in the Manhattan borough of New York City and started on the basketball team of Benjamin N. Cardozo High School, leading the team to its first PSAL championship. He attended Blair Academy for a post-graduate year. AfroBasket 2015 was the 28th edition of the AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. It also served as the qualifying tournament for FIBA Africa at the Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament, 2016 Summer Olympics Basketball Tournament in Brazil. 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup
The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams. 2014 FIBA World Championship
The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 17th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the tournament previously known as the FIBA World Championship. Hosted by Spain, it was the last tournament to be held on the then-current four-year cycle. The next FIBA World Cup was held five years later, in 2019, to reset the four-year-cycle on a different year than the FIFA World Cup. The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Africa region, began in November 2021 and concluded in February 2023. The process determined the five African teams that would participate at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The Brooklyn Nets are an American professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Luol Deng
Luol Ajou Deng (born 16 April 1985) is a British former professional basketball player. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2012. Born in what is now South Sudan, Deng fled the country with his family as a child, eventually settling in the United Kingdom. He became a British citizen in 2006, and has played for the Great Britain national team. After playing college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, Deng was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2004 NBA draft with the seventh overall pick. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team as a 19-year-old in 2005. Manute Bol (; October 16, 1962 – June 19, 2010) was a Sudanese-American professional basketball player and political activist. Listed at or tall, Bol was tied with Gheorghe Mureșan as the tallest player in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After he played college basketball for the Bridgeport Purple Knights, Bol was selected by the Washington Bullets in the 1985 NBA draft. AfroBasket 2017 Qualification
AfroBasket 2017 qualification occurred on various dates on 2017. It determined which African national basketball teams qualified for the 2017 FIBA Africa Championship. Teams competed with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the Championship tournament. Qualified Teams Two teams qualified for the tournament before the qualification round will take place. Fourteen more teams claimed spots in the tournament through Zonal Qualifying.
