South London Healthcare NHS Trust
South London Healthcare NHS Trust was a British National Health Service trust which ran three hospitals in south east London. It was dissolved on 1 October 2013 after going into administration. South London Healthcare NHS Trust was formed in 2009 by amalgamating three small trusts (Queen Mary's Sidcup NHS Trust, Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust and Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust), each of which was losing money. Subsequently it ran up debts of more than £250m and was the first NHS Trust to be put into administration, in July 2012. The decision by the Trust Special Administrator to propose changes to Lewisham Hospital as part of the winding up process was controversial and was successfully challenged in court by the London Borough of Lewisham and the Save Lewisham Hospital Campaign. Lewisham Hospital
University Hospital Lewisham (formerly known as Lewisham Hospital) is a teaching hospital run by Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and serving the London Borough of Lewisham. It is now affiliated with King's College London and forms part of the King's Health Partners academic health science centre. It is situated on Lewisham High Street between Lewisham and Catford. History Early history The site of the current hospital was originally a workhouse, following the bequest of a house on Rushey Green to Lewisham Parish for the relief of the poor in 1612. When the Lewisham workhouse became overcrowded, a new workhouse building was erected in 1817. The Lewisham Poor Law Union was formed in 1836, and the workhouse was enlarged. This improvement included the building of cholera wards behind the workhouse building. The Princess Royal University Hospital or PRUH is a large acute district general hospital situated in Locksbottom, near Farnborough, in the London Borough of Bromley. It is managed by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital has its origins in the Bromley Union Workhouse Infirmary which was opened on the site in March 1845. A female infirmary block was added in 1898 and two new medical blocks were completed in 1929. A new wing was added in 1936 at which time the facility became the Farnborough County Hospital. It joined the National Health Service as Farnborough General Hospital in 1948 and new operating theatres on the site were opened by Robin Turton, Minister of Health, in November 1956. Beckenham Beacon is a redeveloped health centre in Beckenham, on the site of the old Beckenham Hospital, in the London Borough of Bromley, England. Orpington Hospital is an acute general hospital in Orpington, London. It is managed by the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital has its origins in a military hospital built for soldiers originating from the Province of Ontario during the First World War. It opened as the Ontario Military Hospital in February 1916. An extra wing was completed in July 1917 and it was re-designated No 16 Canadian General Hospital in September 1917. Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is an NHS trust which was formed on 1 October 2013 and is responsible for running two acute hospitals, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham, in addition to community health services in Lewisham. The trust was formed by the acquisition of the acquisition of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, London, Queen Elizabeth Hospital by Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust upon the dissolution of South London Healthcare NHS Trust.
