The South Carolina Education Association (The SCEA) is a public education advocacy organization in the U.S. state of South Carolina, representing both teachers and educational support professionals. Organization and functions It has local affiliates in each of the state's 81 public school districts. As the state affiliate of the National Education Association--the largest labor union in the United States-- The SCEA is the only union for educators and public school employees in South Carolina. The SCEA regularly comments on state-level educational issues and performs advocacy work. Members of The SCEA participated in the #REDforEd teacher activities. Richard Riley
Richard Wilson Riley (born January 2, 1933) is an American politician, the United States Secretary of Education under President Bill Clinton and the 111th governor of South Carolina. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Riley is the only Democrat to serve two consecutive terms as governor in the time since the state constitution was amended to allow governors to serve consecutive terms. Early life and career Richard Riley was born on January 2, 1933, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Edward P. "Ted" Riley and the former Martha (née Dixon) Riley. He graduated cum laude from Furman University, where he was a member of the South Carolina Phi Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, in 1954 and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina. SC for Ed, founded in 2018 by Lisa Ellis (American politician), Lisa Ellis, is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit political advocacy group in South Carolina. Overview Lisa Ellis (American politician), Lisa Ellis, founder of the organization, ran for the office of South Carolina Department of Education, state superintendent of education in the 2022 election, as a fusion candidate on the Democratic and Alliance Party tickets.
