Palmetto State Teachers Association
The Palmetto State Teachers Association ( PSTA) is the largest professional organization for educators in the U.S. state of South Carolina. PSTA was founded in 1976 as a non-profit organization and currently has 12,500 member teachers. History The Palmetto State Teachers Association was founded in 1976 by Dr. Elizabeth Gressette, a former kindergarten teacher, who served as the first executive director of the organization. The organization was founded as a splinter group from the South Carolina Education Association (SCEA) shortly following the merger that integrated the white association South Carolina Education Association (SCEA) with Black teacher association Palmetto Education Association (PEA) in 1967 which formed the integrated association now known as the SCEA. Kathy Maness
Kathy Maness is an American educator and politician. Maness serves as a member of the town council from Lexington, South Carolina, and has been the executive director of the Palmetto State Teachers Association since February 16, 2005. Politics Lexington, SC Town Council Maness was first elected to the town council in November 2004, taking office on the following December 1. In 2020, she was elected as the president of the National League of Cities, succeeding Los Angeles councilman Joe Buscaino. Palmetto Education Association
The Palmetto Education Association was a professional association and teachers' union representing teachers in all-black schools (at that time were referred to as "colored schools") in South Carolina during racial segregation in the United States.
