South Arm is a rural residential locality in the local government area of Clarence in the Hobart region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census has a population of 880 for the state suburb of South Arm. History South Arm was gazetted as a locality in 1967. South Arm Post Office opened on 6 February 1856. Kunanyi / Mount Wellington
Mount Wellington (officially kunanyi / Mount Wellington ()) is a mountain in the southeast of Tasmania, Australia. It is the summit of the Wellington Range and is within Wellington Park reserve. Hobart, Tasmania's capital city, is located at the foot of the mountain. The mountain rises to above sea level and is frequently covered by snow, sometimes even in summer, and the lower slopes are thickly forested, but crisscrossed by many walking tracks and a few fire trails. There is also a sealed narrow road to the summit, about from Hobart central business district. An enclosed lookout near the summit has views of the city below and to the east, the Derwent estuary, and also glimpses of the World Heritage Area nearly west. Rosny Park is a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, located in the City of Clarence on the eastern shore of the Derwent River. It is about five kilometres from the city centre of Hobart. Rosny Park is the commercial twin of its residential namesake, Rosny. History The history of Rosny Park goes back to first settlement where the area was part of ''Kangaroo Point'', later renamed Bellerive. The area was rezoned splitting the areas of Bellerive and Rosny Park and gazetted as Rosny Park in 1977 and the boundaries re-gazetted in 1999. Rosny was named for a family name of W.A. Clarence City Council (or City of Clarence) is a local government body in Tasmania, and one of the five municipalities that constitutes the Greater Hobart Area. The Division of Franklin is an Australian electoral division in Tasmania. The division is located in southern Tasmania around the state capital, Hobart. It is the only non-contiguous federal electoral division in Australia, with the two parts of the division separated by the Division of Clark, based around central Hobart. As at the 2016 election, slightly more than half its electors are located on the eastern shore of the River Derwent, incorporating the entire City of Clarence and the suburb of Old Beach from Brighton Council. Derwent River (Tasmania)
The River Derwent is a river located in Tasmania, Australia. It is also known by the palawa kani name timtumili minanya. The river rises in the state's Central Highlands at Lake St Clair, and descends more than over a distance of more than , flowing through Hobart, the state's capital city, before emptying into Storm Bay and flowing into the Tasman Sea. The banks of the Derwent were once covered by forests and occupied by Aboriginal Tasmanians. European settlers farmed the area and during the 20th century many dams were built on its tributaries for the generation of hydro-electricity. Agriculture, forestry, hydropower generation and fish hatcheries dominate catchment land use. The Derwent is also an important source of water for irrigation and water supply. Opossum Bay is a rural residential locality in the local government area of Clarence in the Hobart region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-east of the town of Rosny Park. The 2016 census has a population of 329 for the state suburb of Opossum Bay. It is located on the South Arm Peninsula on the outskirts of Hobart. History Opossum Bay was gazetted as a locality in 1967. Opossum Bay Post Office opened on 16 January 1942 and closed in 1980. The origin of Opossum Bay's name is unclear. In 1997, Opossum Bay received national attention when it was the location of where Labor Senator Nick Sherry had an overnight stay with his mother and was accused of misusing his travel allowances for this stay. Ralphs Bay
Ralphs Bay is a body of water in south-east Tasmania, Australia. It is semi-enclosed by the Tranmere / Rokeby peninsula and the South Arm peninsula. Sea access to the bay is from the River Derwent. Ralphs Bay is a shallow, windy bay, situated on the south-east of the Derwent Estuary, about 12 kilometres from the south-east of Hobart in Tasmania, Australia. The bay is sheltered by the low, grassy hills of Droughty Point to the north-west and the spit of South Arm and Opossum Bay to the south-west. The bay is the river mouth to the Derwent River estuary and serves as the main port of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.
