South African Cricket Team In West Indies In 1991-92
The South Africa national cricket team toured the West Indies in April 1992. The tour marked the first-ever official Test cricket, Test and One Day International matches between the two teams. It was also South Africa's first Test match since their reintroduction to the sport after being suspended in 1970 due to the apartheid regime, and their first Test against a non-white team. The tour consisted of three One-day Internationals and one Test match against the West Indies cricket team, West Indies. All four matches were won by the West Indies. South Africa National Cricket Team
The South Africa national cricket team, also known as the Proteas, represents South Africa in men's international cricket and is administered by Cricket South Africa (CSA). South Africa is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. Its nickname derives from South Africa's national flower, ''Protea cynaroides'', commonly known as the "King Protea". The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players. Roger Harper
Roger Andrew Harper (born 17 March 1963) is a Guyanese former cricketer turned coach, who played both Test and One Day International cricket for the West Indies cricket team. His international career lasted 13 years, from 1983 to 1996, and he was later described as a "fabulous" fielder. His Test bowling average of 28.06 is superior to that of Lance Gibbs, giving him the leading average among all West Indian spinners with at least 25 Test wickets. One of his most notable performances was against South Africa in the Quarter Finals of the 1996 Cricket World Cup when he took 4/47 to allow the West Indies to seize control of the match. Harper was an all-rounder who batted right-handed and bowled right-arm off breaks, although suffering from the yips during part of his career. Kenny Benjamin
Kenneth Charlie Griffith Benjamin (born 8 April 1967) is a former cricketer from Antigua and Barbuda who played 26 Tests and 26 One Day Internationals for the West Indies. Playing career A right arm fast bowler, Benjamin spent much of his international career bowling alongside Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose. He made his Test debut in their side's first ever Test against South Africa, in 1991–92. He never really made a name for himself until a spell of 6–66 against England in 1993–94 which he followed up with seven wickets in his next Test, finishing the series with 22 wickets. Keith Arthurton
Keith Lloyd Thomas Arthurton (born 21 February 1965) is a former West Indian cricketer. Having become only the third player to hail from Nevis, the middle order batsman/left-arm orthodox bowler played in 33 Tests between July 1988 and August 1995 and continued playing in one day matches until May 1999. However, he never recovered from the 1996 World Cup, in which he scored two runs in five innings. Despite a strike rate of just 67, Arthurton was a good striker of the ball, favouring the leg side. Corrie Van Zyl
Cornelius Johannes Petrus Gerthardus van Zyl (born 1 October 1961 in Bloemfontein, Free State) is a former South African cricketer who played two One Day Internationals in 1992. As of 2018 he was employed by Cricket South Africa as general manager of cricket. Van Zyl previously coached the Gestetner Diamond Eagles and in 2010 he was appointed coach of the South Africa National cricket team, following the resignation of Mickey Arthur. Mark Weir Rushmere (born 7 January 1965) is a former South African cricketer who played one Test match and four One Day Internationals (ODIs) for South Africa in 1992. Wicket-keeper
The wicket-keeper in the sport of cricket is the player on the fielding side who stands behind the wicket or stumps being watchful of the batsman and ready to take a catch, stump the batsman out and run out a batsman when occasion arises. Dave Richardson (South African Cricketer)
David John Richardson (born 16 September 1959) is a South African former cricketer and the former CEO of the International Cricket Council. Playing career Richardson played 42 Test matches and 122 One Day Internationals as a wicket-keeper for South Africa, and represented Eastern Province and Northern Transvaal in various domestic competitions. Richardson succeeded Ray Jennings as South Africa's number one 'keeper in 1986 for their Unofficial "Test" matches. For the first seven years after South Africa returned from isolation, Richardson was a permanent fixture as wicket-keeper, his trademark sun hat and brown gloves were very recognisable. Jonathan Neil "Jonty" Rhodes (born 27 July 1969) is a South African professional cricket commentator and former Test and One Day International cricketer. Meyrick Pringle
Meyrick Wayne Pringle (born 22 June 1966) is a former South African cricketer who played in four Tests and seventeen One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 1992 to 1995. Career Pringle attended and played for Kingswood College at school level. After matriculating in 1984 Pringle started playing provincial cricket for a number of teams, including Orange Free State (1985–1986), Sussex (1987–1998), Eastern Province (1988–1989), Western Province (1990–1998) and Eastern Province again (1998–2002). Peter Kirsten
Peter Noel Kirsten (born 14 May 1955) is a former cricketer who represented South Africa in 12 Test matches and 40 One Day Internationals from 1991 to 1994. He is the current coach of the Ugandan national side, having been appointed in August 2014. Cricket career Kirsten first attended Selborne Primary in East London, and in 1966 scored his first century at the age of ten. In 1967 the family moved to Cape Town and Kirsten was enrolled at the oldest school in the country, South African College School, also known as SACS.
