The South Africa men's national cricket team, also known as the Proteas, represents South Africa in men's international cricket and is administered by Cricket South Africa. South Africa is a full member of the International Cricket Council. The team's nickname derives from South Africa's Floral emblem, national flower, ''Protea cynaroides'', commonly known as the "King Protea". Cricket South Africa
Cricket South Africa aka CSA is the governing body for both professional and amateur cricket in South Africa. In 1991, the separate South African Cricket Union and the South African Cricket Board merged to form the United Cricket Board of South Africa, ending racial separation governance in South African cricket. Cricket South Africa was formed in 2002, and initially ran parallel to the UCB, before becoming the sole governing body in 2008. 2007 Cricket World Cup
The 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup was the ninth Cricket World Cup, a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament that took place in the West Indies from 13 March to 28 April 2007. There were a total of 51 matches played, three fewer than at the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup, 2003 World Cup (despite a field larger by two teams). Protea Cynaroides
''Protea cynaroides'', also called the king protea (from , ), is a flowering plant. It is a distinctive member of '' Protea'', having the largest flower head in the genus. The species is also known as giant protea, honeypot, or king sugar bush. It is widely distributed in the fynbos region of South Africa, that is, in the southwestern and southern parts of Western Cape. The king protea is the national flower of South Africa. ''Protea cynaroides'' is adapted to survive wildfires by its thick underground stem, which contains many dormant buds; these will produce the new growth after the fire. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global Sports governing body, governing body of cricket. 2024 ICC World Twenty20
The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup was the ninth edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket from 1 to 29 June 2024. It was the first major International Cricket Council, ICC tournament to include matches played in the United States. The West Indies had previously hosted the 2010 World Twenty20, 2010 competition. 2007 ICC World Twenty20
The 2007 ICC World Twenty20 was the inaugural edition of the Men's T20 World Cup, formerly known as the ICC World Twenty20 that was contested in South Africa from 11 to 24 September 2007. Twelve teams took part in the thirteen-day tournament—the ten Test-playing nations and the finalists of the 2007 World Cricket League Division One tournament: Kenya and Scotland. India won the tournament, beating Pakistan in the final at Johannesburg by 5 runs. Centurion, South Africa
Centurion (previously known as Verwoerdburg and before that Lyttelton) is an area with 236,580 inhabitants (2011 census) in the Gauteng Province of South Africa, between Pretoria and Midrand. Centurion Park is a cricket ground in Centurion in South Africa. It is also known as SuperSport Park since television company SuperSport bought shares in the stadium.
