South Africa national basketball team is the basketball team that represents South Africa in international competitions. The governing body of the team is Basketball South Africa. Team South Africa is one of FIBA's youngest members, as it joined in 1992, yet it has qualified for every FIBA Africa Championship between 1997 and 2011. Basketball South Africa
Basketball South Africa (BSA) is the governing body for men's and women's basketball in South Africa, and is responsible for the administration of the South African national basketball teams (both men's and women's), BSA has been an affiliate of FIBA Africa since 1992 and its offices are located in Johannesburg. The president is Sanele Mthiyane. BSA was admitted to FIBA in 1992, and its senior team has since competed at the AfroBasket but has yet to qualify for the FIBA World Cup. The Basketball National League administers the elite men's professional game. BSA is registered with SASCOC as the officially recognised basketball federation. Daniel Pieter Prinsloo (born 7 January 1992) is a South African professional basketball player who currently plays for Universidad de Concepción of Chile. Prinsloo has also played for the South Africa national team. Standing at , he plays as power forward or center. Lehlogonolo "Hlogi" Sechaba Tholo (born 12 November 1992) is a South African basketball player for Cape Town Tigers and the South Africa national basketball team. Professional career In the 2021 season, Tholo played with the Soweto Panthers. With the Panthers, he reached the BNL Final in which he recorded 25 points, 5 rebounds in 7 assists. As a result, Tholo was named the Final MVP. Since 2021, Tholo is on the roster of the Cape Town Tigers. National team career Tholo has played for the South Africa national basketball team. 3x3 basketball was among the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, England. AfroBasket 2021
FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021. The tournament featured 16 teams, with South Sudan debuting at the AfroBasket stage. Tunisia was the defending champion, having won the 2017 tournament and they defended their title with a final win over Ivory Coast, while Senegal won the bronze medal.
