Farren Soutar
Farren Soutar (born Joseph Farren Soutar; 17 February 1870 – 23 January 1962), was an English actor and singer who became known for his performances in Edwardian Musical Comedies in the West End and on Broadway. Later he acted in some serious plays. His mother was Nellie Farren, the famous principal boy in Victorian burlesque. Early years Born in Greenwich in London, he was the son of the actor, stage manager, and director Robert Soutar and the actress and singer Nellie Farren, known for her roles as the "principal boy" in musical burlesques at the Gaiety Theatre. His older brother was Henry Robert Soutar (1868–1928). A boyhood friend (and with whom he was later to work on the 1934 film '' The Iron Duke'') was George Arliss, for whom Soutar found his first acting job in 1886. William Soutar
William Soutar (28 April 1898 – 15 October 1943) was a Scottish poet and diarist who wrote in English and in Braid Scots. He is known best for his epigrams. Life and works William Soutar was born on 28 April 1898 on South Inch Terrace in Perth, Scotland, the only child of John Soutar (1871–1958), master joiner, and his wife, Margaret Smith (1870–1954), who wrote poetry. His parents belonged to the United Free Church of Scotland. He was educated at Southern District School, Perth, and at Perth Academy, before joining the wartime Royal Navy in 1916. By the time he was demobilized in November 1918, he was suffering from what would be diagnosed in 1924 as ankylosing spondylitis, a form of chronic inflammatory arthritis. Soutar began to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1919, but switched to English. He did not excel academically, but began to contribute to the student magazine. Robert Soutar
Robert Soutar (1830 – 28 September 1908) was an English actor, comedian, stage manager, writer and director for the theatre. He began his career as a journalist but soon moved into acting. In 1867, he married actress Nellie Farren, and the next year, the two joined the company at the Gaiety Theatre in London. There, he stage managed and wrote for the theatre in addition to acting. His wife became well known for her roles as the "principal boy" in musical burlesques at the theatre. Soutar also directed plays and wrote pantomimes and other pieces. His son was the actor and singer Joseph Farren Soutar. Thomas William Soutar (16 March 1893 – 14 June 1981) was a professional athlete and an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Thomas Soutar, and Margaret Soutar, née Dunne, Thomas William Soutar was born at Prahran on 16 March 1893. He married Vera Grace Veale (1896-1988), at Subiaco, on 24 November 1923. Derek Soutar
Derek Soutar (born 4 June 1981, in Dundee) is a Scottish professional football goalkeeper. Career Soutar began his career with Dundee and had loan spells with Brechin City and Alloa Athletic. He signed for Aberdeen in July 2006. Things looked bright for Soutar after the Dons' regular keeper, Jamie Langfield, had a drink fuelled bust up with manager Jimmy Calderwood after bumping into the manager during his honeymoon. As a result of the incident Langfield was demoted to the bench and Soutar was made first choice. On 15 April 2008, he was told he would not be offered a new contract by Aberdeen and would be free to leave in the summer along with six other players. Alan Soutar (born 10 January 1978) is a Scottish professional darts player who competes in the Professional Darts Corporation. He qualified for the 2011 and 2016 BDO World Darts Championship and won a PDC Tour Card in 2021. John Soutar
John Carrick Stuart Soutar (1881 – 27 February 1951) was a Scottish-born architect, and is particularly associated with the design of buildings in Hampstead Garden Suburb in north London. Soutar's older brother, Archibald Stuart Soutar (1879–1951), was also an architect. Both were admitted LRIBA on 20 March 1911, proposed by William Edward Riley, Arthur Alfred Carder and James Maxwell Scott, of the London County Council architects department. John Soutar had joined the department in 1901 following an apprenticeship with Thomas Martin Cappon. The Soutar brothers started in independent practice after winning a competition for the layout of Ruislip Manor Estate (on land owned by King's College, Cambridge). Fabian Soutar (born 11 September 1986) is a professional rugby league footballer who is currently with the Easts Tigers in the Queensland Cup. His usual position is prop/second row. Early years Soutar was born in Wanganui, New Zealand on 11 September 1986. Of Māori and Cook Island descent, he lived his early years in Wanganui. Air Marshal Sir Charles John Williamson Soutar, (12 June 1920 – 15 July 2016) was a British medical doctor and Royal Air Force officer. He served as Director General of RAF Medical Services from 1978 to 1981. Charles John Williamson Soutar was born on 12 June 1920 in the English town of Ilford in the county of Essex. As a boy he attended the Brentwood School before going on to train to be a doctor at the London Hospital Medical School.
