Sound Of Free
"Sound of Free" (alternately known as "Settle Down") is a song performed by American musicians Dennis Wilson and Daryl Dragon (the latter credited as "Rumbo") that was written by Wilson and Mike Love. It was released by Stateside Records as a British-exclusive single on December 4, 1970. The B-side was "Lady". In 2013, "Sound of Free" was officially released on CD for the first time on the Beach Boys' box set ''Made in California''. Writing in his 1978 biography of the band John Tobler said, "No-one seems to have ever asked Dennis what the idea was behind this burst of independence, but it's possible that there's some connection with the fact that ''Sunflower'', and in fact '' Surf's Up'' ... were released in Britain on the Stateside label." In 2021, a remaster of the song was included on the compilation ''Feel Flows''. A stereo mix was not created because the multitrack tape had been lost. Dennis Wilson
Dennis Carl Wilson (December 4, 1944 – December 28, 1983) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys. He is best remembered as their drummer and as the middle brother of bandmates Brian and Carl Wilson. Dennis was the only true surfer in the Beach Boys, and his personal life exemplified the " California Myth" that the band's early songs often celebrated. He was also known for co-starring in the 1971 film ''Two-Lane Blacktop''. Wilson served mainly on drums and backing vocals for the Beach Boys. His playing can be heard on many of the group's hits, belying the popular misconception that he was always replaced on record by studio musicians. The Moog synthesizer is a modular synthesizer developed by the American engineer Robert Moog. Moog debuted it in 1964, and Moog's company R. A. Moog Co. (later known as Moog Music) produced numerous models from 1965 to 1981, and again from 2014. It was the first commercial synthesizer, and is credited with creating the analog synthesizer as it is known today. The Moog synthesizer consists of separate modules which create and shape sounds, which are connected via patch cords. Modules include voltage-controlled oscillators, amplifiers, filters, envelope generators, noise generators, ring modulators, triggers, and mixers. Carl Wilson
Carl Dean Wilson (December 21, 1946 – February 6, 1998) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys. He was their lead guitarist, the youngest sibling of bandmates Brian and Dennis, and the group's ''de facto'' leader in the early to mid-1970s. He was also the band's musical director on stage from 1965 until his death. Glenn Arthur Ferris (born June 27, 1950) is an American jazz trombonist who has also worked in other fields. Outside of jazz he has played for Frank Zappa, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Duran Duran. He studied classical music from 1958 to 1967, but from 1964 onward he also studied jazz with Don Ellis, performing all of the trombone solos on three albums ("Ferris Wheel" was written for him by Don). It was released by Capitol/UME on August 27, 2021 and was produced by Mark Linett and Alan Boyd.
