Soul Quest
''Soul Quest'' (stylized as ''SOUL QUEST'') is the tenth studio album by Japanese singer Misia. It was released on July 27, 2011, through Ariola Japan. The album yielded three official singles, the digital exclusives " Edge of This World" and " Life in Harmony", and the sole physical release " Kioku". The lead track, " This Is Me", served as promotional single for the album. Background and release Misia stated in an interview with EMTG Music that the theme for the album was "modern soul". She wanted to take a departure from the ballad-heavy sound of ''Just Ballade'' to concentrate on creating an R&B record. Misia cites soul records from past decades as her inspiration, describing a desire to incorporate soulful melodies with a contemporary digital sound to create a fusion. Misia
Misaki Itō, commonly known as and stylized as MISIA, is a Japanese singer and songwriter. Born in Nagasaki, Misia moved to Fukuoka at the age of 14 to pursue a recording career. There, she continued her secondary education and briefly attended Seinan Gakuin University before withdrawing to focus on her musical career. She was signed to BMG Japan in 1997, after auditioning for record producer Haruo Yoda. Misia came to prominence following the release of her debut album, ''Mother Father Brother Sister'' (1998), which became the seventh best-selling Japanese debut album of all time, earning her two Japan Gold Disc Awards and one Japan Record Award. Kioku (Misia Song)
is a song recorded by Japanese singer Misia for her tenth studio album, ''Soul Quest''. It was released as the album's lead single by Ariola Japan on May 25, 2011. "Kioku" is the theme song to the EX drama series ''Iryū Sōsa'', starring Takaya Kamikawa. Background and release "Kioku" is Misia's first single in nearly a year and a half, since " Hoshi no Yō ni..." (2009). The single includes a duet between Misia and JP, titled "Kono Mama de Tonight", as well as a cover of the 1967 Frankie Valli song " Can't Take My Eyes Off You". The first pressing of the physical release features a remix of "Maware Maware" as bonus track. Composition "Kioku" was co-written by Misia and Gorō Matsui, composed by Korean composer and record producer BZ4U and produced by Shirō Sagisu. Gorō Matsui
is a Japanese lyricist born 11 December 1957 in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, though he considers Tokyo to be his hometown. Beginning with participation in the Yamaha Popular Song Contests, he made his debut writing the lyrics for the 1981 Chage and Aska album . Matsui then began writing lyrics for groups such as Anzen Chitai, Kyosuke Himuro, and others, becoming one of the more popular lyricists for a variety of rock bands. He has now written the lyrics for over 2000 songs. Since the late 1980s, most of the lyrics for the music released by Anzen Chitai has been written by Matsui. As of today, Matsui is under the management of Avex Group, Japan's biggest independent record label. He serves as a resident songwriter for the said company.
