Sophie Shirley
Sophie Shirley (born June 30, 1999) is a Canadian ice hockey player from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, currently playing with PWHL Boston of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She made her debut with the Canadian women's national team in a two-game exhibition series against the United States in December 2016. Playing career Shirley was a member of Saskatchewan's women's ice hockey team that competed in the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The team lost the bronze medal game to Manitoba by a score of 2–1 in overtime. Competing with the Canadian national under-18 team, she captured silver medals at the 2016 and 2017 IIHF World Women's U18 Championships. During the latter tournament, Shirley was named the tournament's best forward after tying for the scoring lead. Shirley played one season with the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women's Hockey League, and was named the league's rookie of the year. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. IIHF World Women's U18 Championship
The IIHF Women's World U18 Championship, officially the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship, is an annual ice hockey tournament for national women's under-18 (U18) ice hockey teams, administrated by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is the junior edition of the IIHF Women's World Championship and participation is limited to female ice hockey players under 18 years of age. Alina Müller
Alina Müller (born 12 March 1998) is a Swiss ice hockey forward for the Northeastern Huskies and the Switzerland women's national ice hockey team. At the age of 15, she became the youngest ice hockey player ever to win an Olympic medal, scoring the game-winning goal for Switzerland in the bronze medal game at the 2014 Winter Olympics. 2014 Sochi Olympics Müller represented Switzerland at the 2014 Winter Olympics and helped them win a bronze medal after scoring the game-winning goal to defeat Sweden in the bronze medal playoff. Hilary Knight (ice Hockey)
Hilary Atwood Knight (born July 12, 1989) is an American ice hockey forward with the PWHPA and the United States women's national ice hockey team. She previously played for the Les Canadiennes de Montreal of the CWHL and the Boston Pride of the NWHL, with whom she won the inaugural Isobel Cup. Knight competed for the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program, as well as for Choate Rosemary Hall. In her first year at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Knight helped the team place second in the NCAA championships. The following year she led her team in points as the Badgers went on to win the National Championship. CKOM
CKOM is a radio station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada broadcasting at 650 kHz. Its format is news/talk. It shares studio space with sister stations CFMC and CJDJ at 715 Saskatchewan Crescent West, also the home of Rawlco Radio's Corporate Offices. History CKOM began broadcasting at 1340 kHz on June 8, 1951 with an output of 250 watts and its offices were based out of the historic Empire Hotel. By 1960, CKOM was broadcasting full-time on the AM frequency of 1250 kHz with an increase in power to 10,000 watts. During the earlier part of the decade, the station became a Top 40 station. In early August 1985, the station was sold to Rawlco Communications and changed frequencies to 650 kHz. At the time, the station continued to air in its Top 40 format. 2023 PWHL Draft
The 2023 PWHL Draft was the first draft in Professional Women's Hockey League history, and took place on September 18, 2023, at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Minnesota Golden Gophers forward Taylor Heise was the first player chosen in the draft, selected by Minnesota. In all, 90 players were selected over 15 rounds of drafting.
